A Day in the Life: Service Manager

  • Optimizes the service department processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction, growing profitable service labor sales, exercising disciplined expense control, and working collaboratively with parts and sales departments
  • Supports service team through hiring, coaching and retaining key talent while setting department goals and helping the team to achieve these both individually and collectively as a team
  • Creates annual Service Department goals, budget and marketing plan in alignment with the organization’s financial and operational objectives, and monitors monthly to ensure achievement of departmental goals
  • Negotiates equitable service policy settlements, manages work-in-progress (WIP) and pending service work, analyzes rework and takes corrective action
  • Collaborates within company on service department best practices, implements common processes and systems, submits all service warranty and product improvement program claims by deadline to receive maximum credit, and ensures the maintenance and safety of the shop and yard

Need to Succeed:

  • 3-5 years of experience in an equipment dealership setting working as a shop foreman, coordinator, or assistant manager with demonstrated growth in revenue, customer and staff retention
  • Business knowledge, ability to manage finances/budget, taking initiative with customer and employee communication, excellent follow up, and mentorship/coaching skills
  • Computer experience with CDK, dealer work order systems, Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Experience in a dealership setting supporting heavy equipment with a similar volume customer base is highly preferred
  • Ability to lead by example and promote the culture of James River Equipment
