Job Description:

This is a community-based position that services residents of San Felipe Pueblo. The incumbent in coordination with and under the general direction of the Fitness Program Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of a fitness and activity program that is consistent with community needs assessment as assessed on an ongoing basis, and meets the requirements of goals and objectives of the Pueblo of San Felipe Administration and Council, and the Indian Health Service Grant Management guidelines.


Duties:

  • Enthusiastically represent Pueblo of San Felipe Health & Wellness departments values and expectations by engaging in positive gestures of respect, courtesy and kindness to community member, coworkers and vendors.
  • Provides and implements daily and monthly fitness activities such as, but not limited to monthly fun runs, Fitness classes, elderly exercise and community events in collaboration with the WARRIOR Project events.
  • Assisting with the ongoing development of community wellness program.
  • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours as scheduled by the Fitness Program Coordinator.
  • Assist clients with Fitness equipment and Health and Wellness protocol.
  • Maintain fitness center equipment and provide safe environment for clients.
  • Assist with the ongoing development of community wellness program.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Access for data entry.
  • Provides activities such as running programs, physical fitness education, basketball, youth baseball leagues and volleyball intramural events to youth and adults.
  • Assists with recreation and physical activity program in coordination with the Summer Sports Program.
  • Greet fitness center clients in a positive friendly manner and makes them feel welcome ensuring that all clients entering the location are greeted.
  • Ensure communication is passed across the organization from management to every coworker and community client.
  • Must maintain daily maintenance of the facility and monthly maintenance of recreational grounds for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • May assist in Public Health Emergencies.

Qualifications:

Experience working with children, ages 6 16, and adults in fitness related activities, is culturally competent to the fitness and wellness community practices and a demonstrates high ability to effectively communicate and educate in the Keres and languages predominant to San Felipe Pueblo.

  • Education: HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge: Havea basic knowledge and understanding of the educational principles in adult and child learning theories such as behavioral objectives, teaching methodologies and evaluation techniques; and possess skills and abilities to complete physical fitness intakes assessments and charting requirements pursuant to the Health & Fitness operational standards.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: CPRand First Aide.
  • Must have a valid Drivers license and pass a routine background check.
  • Complete the required educational course for Certified Personal Trainer or equivalent and other related specializations and maintaining them through continuing educational courses. Including but not limited to Personal Fitness, Spinning & Yoga Trainer.
  • Physical Requirements: Mustbe physically fit, ability to consistently exercise, bend, stoop, run, spin, sit and stand for long periods. Must be able to lift 50lbs.

The work requires driving and involves standing, bending and walking within the community, schools, clinic and homes. Ability to drive a car in all types of road conditions. Works at a fitness facility and other in and outdoor fitness/recreational areas with fitness equipment. Actively engages through physical movement and fitness activities. Works in fitness center and within the community. May work in or outdoors. Hours may vary, after hours or weekends. Seasonal weather, and events.
