The position is within the Ethics & Compliance group and reports to the Director of Ethics and Compliance. It can be in OH, PA, NJ, MD, or WV, with travel as needed.
The Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Investigations Manager will be responsible for leading the team that manages E&C investigations. Responsibilities include managing a team of investigators, managing, and continuously improving the investigation processes and data, and working with stakeholders throughout the organization to conduct thorough and timely investigations. This manager will also frequently work with Legal and Assurance leaders, in addition to other functional leaders, and be responsible for developing reports of investigation findings and delivering periodic reports to FirstEnergy senior leaders.
The Ethics & Compliance (E&C) group works to strengthen the company's ethics and compliance profile for FirstEnergy's operating companies. The team interacts with various functions to promote trust and respect, manage ethics and compliance risks, promote ethical business conduct, develop policies, procedures, and controls, and manage complaints and concerns. The team also performs risk assessments, conducts investigations, coordinates training, and manages ethics and compliance communications. This position will be expected to interact with all levels of the organization and lead a team of Compliance Specialists focused on investigations.
Responsibilities include:
  • Providing day-to-day leadership for Investigation initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Overseeing the development and build-out of the Ethics & Compliance Investigations program
  • Overseeing the build-out of Investigations policies and procedures
  • Maintaining Investigations policies and procedures
  • Planning, conducting, and overseeing time-sensitive, complex investigations of irregularities, fraud, corruption, and/or other violations of the Code of Conduct, company policies, or the law
  • Conducting interviews with identified parties and subsequently developing reports
  • Conducting and managing investigations triggered by reported concerns and complaints from internal and external parties, including the ethics hotline
  • Collecting data, reviewing patterns and anomalies, and compiling gathered information
  • Developing the framework for storing and maintaining investigation case data
  • Engaging with business unit management to communicate relevant review findings to promote adherence to processes and procedures
  • Drafting and delivering findings and regular status reports to leadership
  • Working with Legal, Assurance, and other functions to ensure understanding of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies & procedures, and risks

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Criminal Justice, Law, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline is required.
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited program a plus
  • Minimum ten years relevant work experience in roles of increasing responsibility is required. Relevant experience includes compliance & ethics, conduct and management of investigations, or similar work experiences.
  • Knowledge of ethical practices and standards within the Utilities of Electricity sector
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • High degree of proficiency in organization and planning
  • Pragmatic with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Able to build relationships and credibility across the organization
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage a team, delegate tasks, and provide guidance to team members
  • Travel to Akron will be required if selected candidate is located outside of Akron
