About The Position

Your future begins here! Join one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona and the youngest in Yuma County! Under close supervision of the Senior Services Manager, this position provides safe and reliable transportation services for elderly passengers to and from the center, while providing assistance with boarding and exiting the vehicle, ensuring passenger comfort and safety, performing vehicle maintenance and inspections, maintaining records, and acting as a positive connection between the center and its participants.

As the Driver, you will:

  • Operate a multi-passenger vehicle in a safe, courteous and reliable manner, adhering to all traffic laws and federal transit regulations.
  • Read and interprets maps to determine the most efficient routes.
  • Assist seniors, including those with disabilities or wheelchairs, to safely board and exit the bus, ensuring proper use of ramps, lifts, and tie-downs.
  • Regulate the vehicle's heating, cooling, and ventilation for passenger comfort. Provides comfort assistance and first aid in an emergency, calling for specialized medical help if needed.
  • Pick and drop off passengers at designated locations and times, following planned routes.
  • Conduct safety briefings for passengers before trips.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure everything is in good working order.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned vehicle, inside and out, and ensures it is kept fueled.
  • Maintain records of vehicle mileage, scheduled trips, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with passengers, staff, and emergency personnel, acting as a liaison between them.
  • Complete required reports, including accident reports if an incident occurs.
  • Provide positive public relations and excellent customer service to seniors.
  • May be responsible for minor on-road maintenance and checking fluids.
  • May assist center staff with coordination of activities, clerical duties, or custodial work when not driving.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

Will possess knowledge of:

  • Safe vehicle operation and basic vehicle maintenance.
  • City of San Luis roads, addresses, and surrounding areas.
  • Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.
  • Common needs and challenges faced by the elderly population.

Will have the ability to:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a multipassenger vehicle.
  • Read, understand, and follow applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Accurately read and interpret road signs in English.
  • Identify maintenance needs and perform minor vehicle repairs.
  • Administer First aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.

Will be skilled in:

  • Interpreting maps, route directions, and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Providing high-quality customer service.
  • Preparing clear, concise and timely reports

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of verified professional driving experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

All Licenses and Certifications required must be maintained throughout employment.

  • Active Arizona Commercial Driver's License - Class B.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card, Level I, or the ability to obtain it before the first day of employment.

Special Requirements:

  • Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis.

Desired/Preferred:

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • San Luis residency.

Work Environment

The employee primarily works on a bus, which involves exposure to moderate noise levels, traffic conditions, road hazards and varying weather conditions. Additionally, the employee may work in a center environment with moderate noise and potential exposure to chemicals while assisting in the kitchen or custodial duties.
