Job description

Welcome to Scarborough Travel Stop. We are a Family oriented, well-established organization seeking an experienced Team Member to join our rapidly growing Team!

The Convenience Store Team Member plays a vital role in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring efficient daily store operations. This position requires a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented individual who can multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.

Full and Part Time Openings Available. Must be able to work various shifts.

Customer Service

  • Greet customers with a smile as they enter the location and assist with product selection and inquiries.
  • ·Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked store while providing prompt and courteous service.
  • Assist customers in locating products, resolving concerns or providing other information.
  • ·Demonstrate and explain merchandise. Use suggestive selling techniques to boost store sales and increase guest satisfaction.
  • Answer customer questions about merchandise. Provide information on promotional specials and loyalty programs.  

Sales and Cash Handling

  • Collect and process cash, credit and digital payments using the store point of sale system.
  • Follow Company policies and procedures for cash handling and safety.
  • Maintain awareness of loss prevention and theft prevention procedures.
  • ·Follow all state and federal regulations for gas, alcohol, tobacco and lottery sales.

Merchandising and Inventory

  • Stock shelves, coolers and displays to ensure products are readily available. Assist with inventory counts and receive deliverables.
  • Rotate Merchandise following FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures. Check expiration dates and remove outdated products.

Store Maintenance and Safety

  • Maintain cleanliness of sales floor, restrooms, food prep areas and exterior.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines when preparing food or beverages.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and store policies. Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.

Teamwork and Operations

  • Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth shift operations. Adapt to flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Act with integrity and honesty, promoting the culture and values of our Company.
  • Prompt and regular attendance on required shifts. Maintain a clean and polished appearance adhering to uniform and dress code policies.
  • Support management with daily, operational tasks. Follow opening and closing procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities·      

  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and resolve issues with tact.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash registers and scanners.
  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed, to make change and give refunds.
  • Able to learn company’s products, services, and policies quickly. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds and traverse all parts of the store quickly.
  • Prolonged periods of standing required.

Education and Experience   
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Previous retail experience preferred.
  • On-the-job training provided.
