Job description

Job Summary:
The Early Head Start/Head Start(EHS/HS) Health Supervisor is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all health, medical, dental, and nutrition services for enrolled children in accordance with federal Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), state regulations, and local program policies. This role ensures comprehensive and timely health services, supports families in accessing care, and collaborates with internal staff and community partners to promote positive child health outcomes.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the Health Services plan, including medical, dental, nutrition, and mental health components.
  • Ensure all health services comply with HSPPS, licensing requirements, and agency policies.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports health data for monitoring, program information report (PIR), and policy council updates.
  • Oversee health screenings, referrals, follow-up, and documentation in the Go Engage database.
  • Coordinate health-related purchases, inventory, and compliance with supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure timely completion of required health screenings (vision, hearing, height/weight, hemoglobin) following 45- & 90-Day screenings.
  • Monitors, immunization compliance and assist families with obtaining needed medical or dental care.
  • Provides guidance regarding communicable disease, medication administration, and health-related incidents.
  • Supports safe environments by reviewing injury reports, conducting site health checks, and ensuring proper sanitation practices.
  • Provides training for staff on health policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with all components to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and conferences.
  • Guides families in understanding and following up on health recommendations.
  • Maintains strong partnerships with medical and dental providers, health departments, and other community agencies.
  • Supports and plans education events, workshops, and family engagement activities.
  • Maintains accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Prepares monthly/ quarterly reports for the Director, policy council, governing board, and federal monitoring.
  • Ensures data integrity and prepares materials for audits or federal reviews.
  • Maintains and holds a health advisory committee twice per year at a minimum.

Position Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in nursing, public health, health education, mental health, or related health field.
  • Experience in early childhood programs, or community health, Head Start performance standards.
  • CPR/ First Aid certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding best practices of Early Childhood Education.
  • Sustained concentration and ability to handle multiple tasks often and simultaneously.
  • Ability to interpret and implement complex policies and regulations.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suites and data management systems.
Working Conditions:
  • Requires travel between centers.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 40 lbs. and work in classroom settings.

Early Head Start/Head Start Director.
Classification: Full-time Exempt.
Working hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm or 9 am-5 pm.
