Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple 1st Class Shipfitter's for an opportunity in Pascagoula, MS.
Additional hourly PD is 18.38 for those that live over 75 miles with valid utility bill. This new rate will require a minimum of 2 hours worked daily and is capped at 8 hours maximum per day. There is NO differentiation for Premium or No Premium.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
  • Minimum 3-5 Yrs. trade experience.
  • Basic math, reading and comprehension skills.
  • Read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements.
  • Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam.
  • Experience with various trade specific tools such as: grinder, hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jack, chain fall and/or come-a-long, combination square, framing square, hand level and plumb bob.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
First-Class Shipfitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Shipfitter or a Boilermaker, is responsible for various tools and equipment used in the fabrication, assembling and erection of metal components at the various stages in constructing a marine vessel. Production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Shipfitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. We stress the practice of working safely in all situations, with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
  • A skill assessment will be a written and hands on test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
  • 6+ Yrs. marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
  • Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
  • Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION
Accredited High School diploma or equivalent.
WORK HOURS
Full Time - 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift.
