Job description

Respiratory Therapist

This is an 8-week contract position.

Day shift, 3 days per week, 12 hours per day from 11 AM to 11:30 PM.

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport within the facility as medically prescribed, while operating within the scope of their professional license and requiring minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients, recommends treatment plans, and provides education about treatments and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct physician-prescribed routine treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy and operate equipment to promote secretion clearance.
  • Conduct suctioning using various methods including oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal.
  • Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring in accordance with policy.
  • Review patient's chest x-rays to assess the need for further evaluation.
  • Execute 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Administer pulmonary function studies per established policies.
  • Assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and more.
  • Manage tracheostomy care and insertion/removal of tracheostomy tubes.
  • Perform arterial punctures according to policy, monitoring and documenting test results.
  • Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Set up and maintain all ventilatory equipment, including conducting self-tests.
  • Document all treatments and patient responses accurately in records and charts.
  • Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians on therapy efficacy.
  • Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging with necessary data entry and verification.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

Candidates must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license and relevant certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
