Job description

A health services network in New Jersey is seeking a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) and/or Physician Assistant (PA) for a First Assist position supporting perioperative surgical care in the operating room and throughout the postoperative continuum.
About the Opportunity:

  • Schedule: Saturdays
  • Hours: 7:00am to 3:00pm
  • Setting: In-person, hospital
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as first assist in the operating room for surgical procedures.
  • Provide surgical exposure through retraction, suctioning, tissue handling, and related first-assist techniques.
  • Assist with hemostasis and wound closure or suturing as appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • Perform preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations, inpatient rounding, and postoperative management.
  • Review labs, imaging, and clinical findings, communicate changes in patient condition, coordinate discharge planning, and maintain EMR documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Current NJS Nurse Practitioner (NP) and/or Physician Assistant (PA) license
  • Board certification appropriate to discipline
  • BLS certification
  • Previous experience in a Surgical and OR First Assist role
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity academic medical center and multidisciplinary surgical environment
Desired Skills:
  • ACLS certification
  • Acute Care certification for Nurse Practitioners in Surgical or Acute Care services
  • CDS or DEA registration
  • Experience collaborating with Surgeons, Residents, Nursing, Anesthesia, Physical Therapy, and Case Management
  • Experience with Quality Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives
