Job description

Position Summary

Helfer and Company, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting firm. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting clients with tax preparation, reconciliations, financial reporting, and general accounting functions. This role requires strong analytical skills, accuracy, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple client projects in a fast-paced, fluctuating environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for multiple clientsย 
  • Perform various reconciliations of payroll, income allocations, equity, and more ย 
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedulesย 
  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger adjustmentsย 
  • Support payroll tax filingsย 
  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, non-profit and gift tax returnsย 
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, tax regulations, and firm proceduresย 
  • Communicate with clients regarding financial information and document requestsย 
  • Identify process improvements and help streamline accounting proceduresย 
  • Maintain confidentiality of client financial informationย 
Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldย 
  • 3โ€“5 years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or an accounting firm environmentย 
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting principlesย 
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, or similar platformsย 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suiteย 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detailย 
  • Excellent communication and client service skillsย 
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritiesย 
  • CPA license or CPA candidate preferred but not requiredย
