Salary: $18.37 - $20.70 Hourly Location : Grand Blanc Job Type: Part-Time Job Number: 202400029 Department: Fire Opening Date: 04/11/2025 Bargaining Unit: Michigan Association of Firefighters Description The Part-Time Firefighter is an integral part in the suppression of fires and performing rescues. Will take part in fire safety presentations and assist in doing station/vehicle tours. Prepare vehicles for future incidents and prepare pre-incident response plans. The position supports the mission and vision of the fire department and its command staff. Examples of Duties
  • Operates all assigned emergency vehicles after passing departmental training program.
  • Performs cleaning of all stations and vehicles and also does minor station and vehicle maintenance
  • Along with the on-duty crew, they perform annual testing on various equipment
  • Assists or facilitates station and vehicle tours for fire safety presentations
  • Performs fire suppression, rescues, and protects people and the environment from hazardous material releases
  • While on duty, this position is an essential part of the initial fire response team and must respond to incidents. When off duty, this person shall respond to all call incidents
  • Participates in training sessions on fire prevention education, fire suppression, and rescue
  • Coordinates and performs fire safety inspections of local businesses and pre-incident surveys.
  • Assumes responsibility for completing incident reports when necessary
  • Attends conferences and seminars to maintain certifications
  • Attends trainings and seminars approved by the fire chief
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Respond to the needs of the public fairly, objectively, and professionally in the treatment of other people,
  • Complies with all safety procedures and regulations. Alert to potentially dangerous conditions and reports them immediately to the incident commander or higher-level officer.
  • Presents a positive public image, by wearing a properly maintained uniform and protective clothing while following the department's guidelines on appearance.
Typical Qualifications
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment physical that includes drug testing, physical agility testing, and a background check.
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Must reside within twenty (20) miles, direct line of distance, from the Employer's boundary.
  • Obtained or actively obtaining a High School Diploma or G.E.Dduring your work probationary period
  • Obtained or actively obtaining the State of Michigan firefighter certifications level 1 and 2 during your work probationary period
  • Maintain a valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information to officials, other employees, and the general public.
  • Perform all basic math functions using whole and fractional numbers
  • Solve practical problems.
