Product Design Engineer II
Eldridge, IA - Direct Hire
Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our client's team at their facility in Eldridge, IA. As a member of the team, the selected candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of mechanical components and systems to ensure they meet performance, quality, and reliability requirements. The role develops and maintains accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models to support design and manufacturing, while collaborating with Sales, Quality, Application Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and CNC Programming to ensure designs are practical and efficient. This position also selects appropriate materials, fits, and tolerances based on functional and application requirements.
This is a full-time position that is indefinite in duration with the opportunity of professional growth, and additional opportunities within our organization.
Duties:
  • Expeditiously manage emergency activities allowing focus to remain with completing projects/tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in handling work assignments.
  • Ensure that designs meet function, safety, and quality requirements before releasing for use.
  • Responsible for design, design updates, and design drawing releases on projects.
  • Interface with Production and Tooling, Sales, and Quality departments in cooperative, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Participates and leads in design reviews.
  • Responsible for establishing testing requirements for designs and updates. Must perform or support testing as required.
  • Alert the Supervisor of issues that may have any negative impact on the value of the end products being provided.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor to ensure common understanding of design activity, progress, and organization of projects.
  • Meet time standards established for tasks.
  • Report any issues affecting productivity, safety, and quality to the Supervisor.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Follow company procedures and policies.
  • Adequate control, protection, and use of the assets of the company.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically, Mechanical Engineering is preferred, however other Engineering discipline degrees combined with relevant experience are also acceptable. Examples of such are Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, PowerShape, Fusion 360) for creating detailed, production-ready models and drawings.
  • Proficiency in Creo.
  • Minimum 6 years of product design experience.

Preferred:
  • Design experience in the defense and/or firearms industry.
  • Experience with system level engineering specifically experience beyond individual component level projects and products.
  • Ability to independently develop and refine engineering solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes, requirements management, verification, and validation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to develop and integrate complex mechanical systems that meet technical, cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to identify system-level impacts of design decisions and recommend optimized solutions.
  • Ability to support testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field support activities as needed.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and creating engineering and production drawings.
  • Proficient in understanding and applying GD&T fundamentals per ASTM Y14.5-2009.
  • Extensive understanding and wide application of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in mechanical design.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, CNC, and conventional machining practices.
  • Excellent visual perception to ensure fine detail quality inspection.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical computations using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Must be highly motivated and perform independently as well as in a team environment.
