Fire Watch Attendants are safety personnel responsible for monitoring areas where hot work, such as welding or cutting, is being performed. Their primary duty is to watch for and respond to any signs of fire, ensuring that fire hazards are minimized during and after such activities. They are trained to use fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment, maintain clear escape routes, and communicate with emergency services if needed. Fire Watch Attendants play a critical role in preventing fires and ensuring workplace safety, particularly in high-risk environments.

To thrive as a Fire Watch Attendant, you need strong observational skills, basic knowledge of fire safety protocols, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and documentation procedures is often required, and OSHA safety training or fire watch certification may be preferred. Attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication are important soft skills for promptly identifying and reporting hazards.
