Job description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Plumbing Engineer to support the design and delivery of healthcare-focused projects. This role involves collaborating with clients, architects, and engineering teams to develop plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection system solutions for hospitals, outpatient facilities, laboratories, clinics, and other institutional buildings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop construction drawings and technical specifications in coordination with project teams.
  • Design plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems from concept through construction documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations for domestic water, natural gas, medical gas, sanitary, sewer, and fire protection systems.
  • Select and specify equipment for building systems.
  • Incorporate sustainable and energy-conscious design practices where appropriate.
  • Prepare contract documents and detailed system layouts.
  • Develop technical reports and project specifications.
  • Coordinate designs with architects and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Participate in client meetings to gather project requirements and address design-related questions.
  • Coordinate utility service requirements with relevant agencies and providers.
  • Support projects during construction by attending meetings and resolving field-related issues.
  • Review RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals related to plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Conduct site visits and prepare field observation reports.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list reviews and final inspections.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience on commercial, healthcare, institutional, or similar building projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable plumbing, fire protection, and building codes, including experience working within New York City regulations.
  • Experience with healthcare facilities, laboratories, science and technology projects, and medical gas systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
