Salary: $6,300 per month (BC-11) This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A, Endorsement N - Tank vehicles (permanently mounted tank rated greater than 119 gallons, or portable tank rated greater than 1000 gallons), and with no restrictions relating to codes E (vehicles equipped with manual transmission), I (class C vehicle over 18,000 pounds GVWR), and L (vehicles equipped with air brakes). Duties Summary Maintains and repairs aircraft crash/fire rescue vehicles, boats and auxiliary equipment; repairs diesel and gasoline engines, including synchronized dual engines; fabricates parts and performs welding to modify vehicles and constructs or repairs various items; may repair automobiles, trucks, and heavy construction equipment; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. General Experience: One (1) year of journey worker level automotive repair work experience which demonstrated knowledge of the theories and principles of both diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines; troubleshooting, repair and maintenance procedures for gas and diesel engines, brake systems, transmissions, and drive shafts; the use of hydraulic oil presses, gauges, gear or bearing pullers, testing equipment and tools used in the automotive repair trade; principles of electricity as applied to the electrical systems of automotive vehicles; occupational hazards and precautionary measures applicable to the automotive repair trade; and the ability to perform the complete overhaul of gasoline engines and smaller diesel engines; locate and correct mechanical defects in gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment; perform arc welding and simple body and fender repairs and interpret and work from drawings as well as from oral and written instructions. Specialized Experience: One (1) year of independent specialized work experience in the maintenance and repair of crash/fire vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
The work experience must demonstrate possession of knowledge of troubleshooting, repair and maintenance procedures for high pressure positive displacement and centrifugal pumps; and the ability to read and comprehend crash/fire vehicle and equipment manufacturers' manuals for troubleshooting, repair, and operating procedures; repair synchronized dual engines; use volt-ohm meters, oscilloscopes and tools for electrical repair; maintain and repair equipment such as high pressure rotary and centrifugal pumps, turret controls, nozzles, and air compressors; express ideas verbally and clearly; and keep simple records. License: Applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A, Endorsement N - Tank vehicles (permanently mounted tank rated greater than 119 gallons, or portable tank rated greater than 1000 gallons), and with no restrictions relating to codes E (vehicles equipped with manual transmission), I (class C vehicle over 18,000 pounds GVWR), and L (vehicles equipped with air brakes). Applicants must possess a valid CDL at the date of appointment.
A valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted. If you are selected for this position, you must transfer your out-of-state CDL to a Hawaii-issued CDL prior to your employment start date and within 30 days of arriving in Hawaii. Your Hawaii-issued CDL will be verified by the hiring agency before you can start work.
Please contact the Honolulu CDL Office at (808) 768-4185 for information on how to obtain a Hawaii CDL. Also, for positions requiring a CDL, the Federal Department of Transportation regulations require pre-employment testing for controlled substances. If you are selected for this position, you will be informed by the hiring agency of when and where to report for testing.
Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within 10 years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years.
