Position Summary:
The Lead Safety & Quality Instructor- Electrical (Data Center) owns the safety and quality backbone of the program and training delivery. This instructor leads foundation orientation, Craft Readiness (LOTO and InfraLink), Medium Voltage Excellence, QA/QC Inspection Excellence, and Commissioning & Energization Readiness. This is the instructor participants look to for hazardous energy control, isolation verification, and the judgment calls that keep a mission-critical site safe and on schedule.
Responsibilities:
• Lead Day 1 Foundation orientation for all participants, covering mission-critical culture, human performance principles, and Stop Work Authority.
• Teach Craft Readiness sessions on functional Lockout/Tagout, InfraLink navigation, multi-source isolation, and isolation verification.
• Lead Medium Voltage Installation Excellence, covering cable preparation, terminations, torque verification, and common installation deficiencies.
• Lead QA/QC Inspection Excellence for all participants, covering quality boards, inspection technique, documentation standards, and punch list prevention.
• Lead Commissioning & Energization Readiness, including MOP review, startup verification, and energization decision scenarios.
• Conduct practical instructor sign-off assessments for LOTO demonstration, isolation verification, and energization readiness exercises.
• Run open lab and skills validation sessions to reinforce material and remediate participants who need additional practice.
• Coordinate with the Technical Excellence Instructor to keep both cohorts moving through a shared weekly delivery schedule without gaps in coverage.
• Flag recurring deficiencies or trends observed in the field back to the program team so course content stays current with real job-site issues.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 8 years of hands-on electrical construction experience, including medium voltage installation and termination work.
• Current journeyman or master electrician license (Michigan, or reciprocal license transferable to Michigan).
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and hazardous energy control (LOTO) requirements in an industrial or construction setting.
• Prior experience training, mentoring, or leading crews in a formal or informal instructional capacity.
• Comfortable teaching both classroom-style sessions and hands-on lab exercises in the same day.
• Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical judgment calls clearly to experienced tradespeople.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience on hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center construction projects.
• Familiarity with digital isolation tracking systems (InfraLink or comparable platforms).
• OSHA 30 Construction certification.
• Formal train-the-trainer or adult learning certification.
• Experience building or refining curriculum based on field deficiency data or lessons learned.
People Responsibilities:
This role will potentially monitor, coach and develop an onsite instructor that will be present during training.
Physical Requirements:
• Able to stand, walk, and demonstrate hands-on tasks for extended periods in a training lab or mock-up environment.
• Able to work on an active construction site, including required site-specific safety orientation and PPE use.
• Able to travel to the Ann Arbor area training site daily; this is an on-site, not remote, position.
