Job description

We are hiring a Fire Alarm Technician for full-time, on-site work in commercial and industrial facilities across the Kansas City Metro. This role covers installation, inspection, testing, and routine service of fire alarm and life safety systems, with support from senior technicians on complex programming and diagnostics. Pay is $25 to $32 per hour based on experience and certification level.

Key Responsibilities - Fire Alarm Technician

  • Install, inspect, and test fire alarm and life safety devices in commercial and industrial buildings. Complete assigned service calls and inspection routes.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting of devices, circuits, and wiring using electrical drawings and manufacturer documentation. Escalate complex panel faults to senior technicians.
  • Assist with fire alarm panel programming, device addressing, and system verification under direction of a lead technician.
  • Document all work performed through accurate service reports, inspection records, and deficiency lists.
  • Coordinate daily scheduling with dispatch, customers, and other technicians. Follow site safety requirements on every job.

Qualifications - Fire Alarm Technician

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on field experience with fire alarm, low voltage, security, or electrical systems.
  • Working familiarity with NFPA 72 inspection and testing requirements, or willingness to train toward it.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, wiring schematics, and device layouts.
  • Basic hand tool and test equipment proficiency, including multimeter use.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites throughout the Kansas City metro.

Preferred Qualifications - Fire Alarm Systems Technician

  • NICET Level I in Fire Alarm Systems, or active progress toward certification.
  • Exposure to common panel platforms such as Notifier, Simplex, Silent Knight, Gamewell-FCI, EST, or Siemens.
  • Prior low voltage, security, access control, or nurse call installation experience.
  • Trade school, apprenticeship, or military electronics background.
  • OSHA 10 and aerial or scissor lift certification.

Physical Requirements - Fire Alarm Technician

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and handle ladders, tools, and test equipment daily.
  • Climb ladders and work from lifts at height. Access attics, ceilings, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, bend, and reach overhead for extended periods across a full shift.
  • Work on-site full-time in commercial and industrial environments with varying temperature, dust, and noise.
  • Travel locally to customer sites. Occasional after-hours or weekend response may be required.
