What does a Fintech Senior Software Engineer do?

A Fintech Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex software solutions tailored for the financial technology sector. This role involves working with technologies such as blockchain, payment processing systems, and security protocols to build scalable and secure financial applications. Senior engineers also mentor junior developers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Their work is crucial in enabling innovative digital financial products and services.

How does a Fintech Senior Software Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure financial solutions?

As a Fintech Senior Software Engineer, you will regularly work with product managers, UX/UI designers, compliance specialists, and QA engineers to design, develop, and deploy secure financial applications. Collaboration often involves participating in agile ceremonies, reviewing technical requirements, and ensuring all solutions meet regulatory and security standards. Effective communication and teamwork are crucial, as you’ll need to balance innovation with strict compliance, and often mentor junior engineers in best practices. This cross-functional approach ensures that the final product is robust, user-friendly, and aligned with business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fintech Senior Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fintech Senior Software Engineer, you need advanced programming skills (such as Java, Python, or C++), a deep understanding of financial systems, and a degree in computer science or related field. Job description

Senior Software Engineer
Location: United States
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 3-10 years
Focus: Backend Engineering, AI-Native Products, Fintech, Mortgage Servicing Infrastructure
About Our Client
Our client is building an AI-native operating system for mortgage servicing.
The mortgage industry moves billions of dollars through highly complex, regulated workflows across federal, state, and agency requirements. Our client is modernizing this infrastructure with software that helps enterprise customers manage critical mortgage servicing operations with more speed, accuracy, and intelligence.
The company is growing quickly, has recently signed multiple large enterprise customers, and is expanding its engineering team to support continued product and platform scale.
About the Role
Our client is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale backend systems that power mission-critical mortgage servicing workflows.
This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who can own features end-to-end, operate with autonomy, and meet a strong technical bar. You'll work across product, backend, platform, and infrastructure problems depending on team fit and business priorities.
The team is AI-native in how they build. Engineers are expected to use AI-assisted development tools to move faster while maintaining strong engineering judgment, human review, and production-quality standards.
What You'll Do
  • Own product and platform features end-to-end in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Build and scale backend systems that support billions of dollars in mortgage transactions
  • Design reliable infrastructure for complex financial, regulatory, and operational workflows
  • Build systems that support federal, state, and agency compliance requirements
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to write, test, and ship production code
  • Partner across product, platform, infrastructure, and engineering teams
  • Break down ambiguous technical problems and turn them into shipped outcomes
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability
  • Help define engineering standards as the company scales with large enterprise customers

What We're Looking For
  • 3-10 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals
  • Experience building and scaling production systems
  • Ability to own features from design through implementation, launch, and iteration
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to pass a high engineering bar
  • Comfort operating with autonomy in a startup environment
  • Experience working with complex business logic, regulated workflows, or high-stakes systems
  • Comfort using AI tools as part of the software development workflow
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across product and engineering teams
  • Bias toward shipping reliable, maintainable software

Bonus Experience
  • Experience in fintech, mortgage technology, lending, servicing, banking, insurance, or other regulated industries
  • Experience building backend systems that handle payments, transactions, compliance workflows, or financial operations
  • Experience with platform or infrastructure engineering
  • Experience at a high-growth startup or enterprise SaaS company
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools in production engineering workflows

Why This Opportunity
  • Join a rapidly growing company building modern infrastructure for mortgage servicing
  • Work on systems that support billions of dollars in financial transactions
  • Build AI-native software for a large, highly regulated industry
  • Partner with strong engineers solving complex backend, product, and infrastructure problems
  • Own meaningful features end-to-end with high autonomy
  • Join at a stage where large enterprise customer demand is creating major engineering opportunities
  • Help shape the technical foundation of a category-defining platform
