Job description

Company: IRALOGIX, Inc. Position: Principal Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC or Pittsburgh, PA Job Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Industry: Retirement Services/FinTech Software Travel: 0%-25%

IRALOGIX is a high-growth, institutional technology platform focused on providing uniquely capable solutions to IRA providers, 401(k) recordkeepers, retirement-focused Advisors, Mutual Fund investment providers, and banks interested in growing their IRA capabilities, revenue, and market share. Through proprietary, ground-up technology, we are changing the landscape and are empowering client companies to provide broader access to the best retirement services possible while significantly lowering administration costs and increasing efficiency, profitability, and competitiveness, far beyond industry expectations.

Role:

As a PRINCIPAL ENGINEER, reporting to senior engineering leadership, you will be one of the most senior individual contributors at IRALOGIX and a technical leader for the entire platform. Your primary objective will be to scale the core of our platform while measurably ensuring resiliency, maintainability, and observability. You will own the architecture of distributed systems that move and account for retirement assets to the penny, scale our transaction processing by orders of magnitude, and set the engineering standard the rest of the organization builds to. This is a hands-on role: you will write code on our hardest problems while shaping technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities:

The essential responsibilities and duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Scope, design, build, and operate the services at the core of our platform — systems that must process retirement transactions accurately, at scale, every day.
  • Drive step-change improvements in throughput, resiliency, and performance, scaling distributed cloud services both vertically and horizontally across the stack.
  • Build the observability needed to prove the platform is right: dashboards, monitoring, and alerting that verify accurate and timely processing down to decimal precision.
  • Arbitrate critical architectural decisions in collaboration with architecture, balancing software best practices, system realities, and stakeholder needs.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality code that adheres to a defined SDLC, coding standards, and automated quality gates, with measurable improvement in code quality and test coverage for our most critical functionality.
  • Debug and resolve critical production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
  • Teach and mentor the next generation of technical leaders at IRALOGIX.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep production experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Working proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScrip, React, Node.js and Python.
  • Strong experience with ANSI SQL and PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and scaling distributed systems, including event-driven, straight-through, and batch processing.
  • Ability to leverage the full capabilities of modern observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logging, and alerting).
  • AWS experience with services such as ECS, RDS, S3, and IAM, including infrastructure-as-code.
  • Ability to move fluidly between high-level architecture discussions and detailed code.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 12 years of software development experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience in a FinTech or start-up environment preferred.
  • Proficient with AWS and/or AWS certifications preferred.
  • Experience with accounting systems is preferred.
  • Must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or eligible to work in the US permanently.

IRALOGIX is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a team that embraces diversity, represents a variety of backgrounds, and upholds inclusiveness. M/F/V/D
