Fintech Developer information

What is a fintech developer?

A Fintech Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building financial technology applications, such as digital payments, banking platforms, trading systems, and blockchain solutions. They work with programming languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript and use APIs, cloud services, and security protocols to create secure and efficient financial systems. Their role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications to meet the evolving needs of the financial industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fintech developer?

To thrive as a Fintech Developer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Python, Java, or C#), a solid understanding of financial systems, and usually a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with financial APIs, cloud platforms, databases, and certifications such as Certified FinTech Professional (CFTE) can be valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help you excel in this role. These skills are crucial for building secure, scalable, and compliant financial technology solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

What are the common challenges faced by fintech developers in their daily work?

Fintech Developers often deal with challenges such as keeping up with rapidly changing financial regulations, ensuring data security and privacy, and integrating complex legacy systems with new technologies. They may also need to troubleshoot and optimize code for reliability and scalability in high-transaction environments. Working in cross-functional teams with product managers, financial analysts, and compliance officers requires strong collaboration skills. These factors make adaptability and continuous learning important for long-term success in this role.

How much do fintech developers make?

Fintech developers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and skill set. Senior developers with expertise in blockchain, cybersecurity, or data analysis can earn higher salaries, especially in competitive markets or with specialized certifications.

Is fintech a high paying career?

Fintech developers typically earn higher salaries compared to many other tech roles due to the specialized skills required, such as programming, financial knowledge, and familiarity with tools like blockchain and APIs. Salaries vary based on experience, location, and company size, but the field generally offers competitive compensation and growth opportunities.

Job description

At AutoScout24,ย we're excited to be hiring for our Canadian company,ย Trader Corporation -ย a key part of our international family.
As the Canadian arm of Europe's largest online car marketplace, Trader Corporation plays a vital role in transforming how people buy, sell, and finance vehicles. With well-known brands likeย AutoTrader.ca, AutoSync, and Dealertrack Canada, Trader Corporation is driving digital innovation in the automotive industry - now reaching over 25 million Canadians every month.

This role will be within our FinTech Business i.e.ย Dealertrack Canada, the country's leading automotive financing portal, processing over 6.5 million credit applications annually andย Collateral Management (CMS), a national tech solution that boosts lien and registration services, recovery services, and insolvency management solutions for Canadian Lenders.

Our fintech platforms power the lending workflows that financial institutions and dealers rely on every day, forming the backbone of Canada's automotive lending ecosystem.

Our mission is to help Canadians get into the right vehicles with confidence by powering the financial infrastructure behind it. We've built an industry-leading ecosystem at the center of automotive finance in Canada, and we're just getting started.

Role Summary
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to drive key initiatives within our fintech domain. Reporting into the Product Director, you will own the strategy, roadmap, execution, and performance of important product areas that support automotive lending, dealer workflows, and lender experiences across Canada.
You'll work closely with engineering, design, data, commercial teams, lenders, and partners to translate customer needs, business opportunities, and product performance signals into clear product direction and measurable outcomes. This is a highly visible individual contributor role with direct impact on company priorities, customer success, and the evolution of our fintech platforms.
You'll thrive here if you enjoy solving complex problems, operating in ambiguity, connecting customer, business, technical, and data perspectives, and rallying teams around a clear product vision. You bring a hands-on, experimental mindset - including a demonstrated ability to use AI tools across product discovery, research, analysis, story refinement, prototyping, and execution.

What you'll doย

  • Own the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and full lifecycle for a key product area within our fintech portfolio - from discovery through delivery and into long-term health
  • Own the numbers for your product area: define success metrics, understand performance drivers, monitor adoption and business impact, and use data to guide decisions and priorities
  • Partner with financial institutions, dealers, and internal stakeholders to understand evolving needs and ensure our platforms continue to support critical lending workflows
  • Lead discovery for complex problems, validating hypotheses through customer research, data analysis, structured experimentation, and market insight
  • Translate customer, partner, data, and business needs into clear product priorities, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical context
  • Drive cross-functional execution with engineering, design, data, product marketing, sales, operations, and business teams to deliver high-impact products
  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments, integrations, workflows, and business constraints while making clear product decisions, even when data is incomplete
  • Clearly communicate product vision, strategy, roadmap decisions, product performance, and launch impact to executives, partners, and cross-functional teams

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of product management experience in B2B SaaS, digital platforms, fintech, lending, automotive, CRM, dealer software, or other complex product environments
  • Proven experience owning product strategy, roadmap, execution, and outcomes for complex products or platforms
  • Strong data-informed decision-making skills, including defining success metrics, analyzing performance, sizing opportunities, and making tradeoffs based on customer, business, and product signals
  • Strong product fundamentals, including discovery, prioritization, story writing, acceptance criteria, roadmap planning, agile delivery, and go-to-market partnership
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex systems with multiple stakeholders, integrations, customer segments, workflows, and commercial considerations
  • Strong technical fluency and the ability to partner deeply with engineering teams as a trusted product counterpart
  • Demonstrated capability applying AI tools across product work - research, prototyping, analysis, story writing, prioritization, or workflow acceleration
  • Comfort with multi-level stakeholder management, including proactive communication with leadership, partners, and delivery teams
  • A collaborative mindset, strong accountability, and a track record of making the people and teams around you better
