Job description

SEI is seeking a FinOps Engineer to improve cost transparency, automation, accountability, and optimization across Azure, AWS, OCI, Snowflake, GitHub Copilot, Devin, and other SaaS and AI/token-based services. This role will build scalable FinOps practices that help workload teams understand and own their spend while aligning technology consumption to business value. This is an engineering-aligned enablement role focused on tooling, reporting, automation, and governance.

Role purpose:

Operationalize enterprise FinOps capabilities that make cloud, data platform, developer productivity, and AI consumption visible, measurable, and accountable.

Guiding principles:

Use automation, tooling, dashboards, alerts, and standards to scale cost management. Enable workload teams to understand, forecast, and own their spend. Reinforce FinOps as a shared responsibility across Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Product, Business Management, and Leadership.

What you’ll do:
  • Establish Cloud workload cost estimation, forecasting, budgeting, alerting, and spend review processes across SEI’s cloud, data, developer productivity, and AI platforms.
  • Standardize Cloud and AI cost reporting, allocation, tagging, KPIs, showback/chargeback inputs, and GL mapping in partnership with Business Management and Finance.
  • Identify spend anomalies, analyze cost drivers, track optimization opportunities, and coordinate remediation with accountable workload teams.
  • Analyze reservations, savings plans, committed-use discounts, enterprise agreements, and usage trends to support Procurement, Finance, and Business Management decisions.
  • Perform quarterly and annual reviews to identify cost trends, recurring issues, lessons learned, tooling gaps, and opportunities to improve automation, standards, and governance.
What we would like from you:
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, FinOps, technology finance, analytics.
  • Working knowledge of consumption-based cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, OCI, Snowflake, GitHub Copilot, AI/token-based services.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud cost management, billing, tagging, allocation, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and optimization.
  • Billing data aggregation and normalization across providers to enable consistent dashboards and reporting.
  • Technical ability to develop dashboard UI’s, reports, KPIs, and analytics using tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, APIs, cloud‑native cost tools, or data pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex usage and billing data into clear recommendations.
