About the Role

At Southland Credit Union, we believe helping people achieve financial well-being extends beyond the branch-it includes building secure, reliable digital experiences that our members and associates depend on every day. Behind every online transaction, internal application, and technology solution is a team committed to making banking simpler, safer, and more accessible.

As a Software Engineer, you'll play an important role in designing and building the applications that power our organization. This is an on-site/hybrid position based out of our headquarters in Los Alamitos, CA and requires a regular on-site presence. Candidates must reside in Southern California and be able to work the approved hybrid schedule. This is not a remote position, and applicants seeking fully remote work or residing outside of Southern California will not be considered.

  • Develop secure, reliable back-end applications and services that support business operations and member-facing solutions.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that supports long-term application stability and future enhancements.

  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and security using industry best practices.

  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and IT teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Identify opportunities to improve existing applications, streamline development processes, and introduce new technologies where appropriate.

  • Support application deployments, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that support Southland's strategic goals.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience using version control systems such as Git.

  • Knowledge of secure software development practices and application security principles.

  • Familiarity with back-end technologies such as Node.js or Python is a plus.

  • Experience with Symitar SymXchange or financial institution systems is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

  • Passion for continuous learning and staying current with evolving technologies and industry trends.

Preferred Qualifications
