RSM's Financial Services practice serves clients across asset management, capital markets, financial institutions, specialty finance, and insurance. This role is focused on serving clients in the financial institutions industry, including banks, bank holding companies, fintech companies, specialty finance companies, broker-dealers, and other regulated financial services organizations.
As a Tax Supervisor, you will provide technical tax expertise, lead engagement execution, oversee staff development, and deliver exceptional client service. You will work closely with managers and partners on complex tax compliance, consulting, and planning engagements while acting as a day-to-day contact for clients and engagement teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Quality Expertise
  • Review and analyze complex federal and state corporate, consolidated, partnership, and other pass-through tax returns for financial institution clients.
  • Review and evaluate tax workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
  • Research and document technical tax issues affecting financial institutions and banking organizations.
  • Assist with tax planning opportunities, transaction structuring, and consulting projects.
  • Stay current on tax legislation, regulatory developments, and industry-specific issues impacting financial institutions.
  • Identify tax risks and opportunities and communicate findings to engagement leadership and clients.

Client Service
  • Serve as a primary contact for clients regarding ongoing tax compliance and consulting matters.
  • Communicate complex tax issues in a practical and understandable manner.
  • Coordinate with specialists across state and local tax, international tax, tax technology, ASC 740, and transaction advisory services.
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
  • Assist managers and partners with client relationship management and identification of additional service opportunities.

People Development
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor associates, senior associates, and interns.
  • Provide technical guidance and review feedback to engagement team members.
  • Assist with staff development, training, and performance coaching.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on continuous learning and professional growth.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Four or more years of public accounting tax experience.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing federal and state income tax returns.
  • Working knowledge of tax law and technical aspects of tax compliance and planning.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligibility to sit for the CPA exam, EA credential, or licensed attorney.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active CPA, EA, or licensed attorney.
  • Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • Experience serving financial institutions, banks, bank holding companies, fintech organizations, broker-dealers, or specialty finance companies.
  • Experience managing client engagements from planning through delivery.
  • Knowledge of ASC 740 and tax provision concepts.
  • Experience reviewing complex corporate returns and researching technical tax matters.

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $82,400 - $155,700
Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
