Job description

What's the role?

As a Senior Accountant you are responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for daily, weekly and monthly and yearly accounting tasks and activities. Is also expected to make recommendations to the Controller, CFO and CEO for building and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Directly and indirectly supervises accounting personnel. This position needs to meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and reporting.

  • Deep understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate monthly, quarterly and year-end close. Ensure that all segment financial reporting deadlines are met, including reporting of key financial and operational performance measurements and metrics.
  • Ensure the accurate reporting of all segments monthly financial information, including Statement of Financial Positions (Balance Sheet), Statement of Comprehensive Income (Income Statement), Statement of Cash Flows and Statement of Changes in Equity
  • Full knowledge of applications required for financial reporting, including the required SAP (S4/ Hanna) applications and modules.
  • Responding to inquiries from the Sr. Accounting Manager regarding financial results and other special reporting requests.
  • Responsible for analyzing, documenting, and explaining changes in revenue, expense, cash balances and balance sheet account trends and analyzing, documenting and explaining variances to budget, including drivers.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Lead role in development and implementation of new procedures and features to improve the workflow of the department.
  • Assist the Sr. Accounting Manager to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Collaborate with other departments and finance personnel to obtain, verify and record transaction report data and issues on a timely basis.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Work with direct reports to establish performance objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to improve the professional development of staff.
  • Assist in budget and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborates with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives. Knowledge of ad-valorem and income taxes to assist tax personnel as necessary.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Support Sr. Accounting Manager with special projects and workflow process operational improvements.
  • Responsible for recording employees’ absences and tardiness and identify occurrences according to Attendance and Tardiness Policy.
  • Demonstrates and ensures compliance with the Customer First Philosophy, all Liberty Latin America's policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.
  • Other functions that may be assigned.

What do you need?

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors degree required in Accounting; CPA and/or master’s degree in accounting preferred.

4-7 years of experience in the accounting/financial reporting areas. 

Other Qualifications:

• Fully Bilingual (Spanish and English).
• Big 4, SOX Experienced preferred. 
• Experience with large automated accounting systems. Possess strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
• Exposure to and experience with PR and US tax systems.
• Good analytical and financial planning skills.
• Accounting and reporting knowledge – particularly in US GAAP.
