The Associate, Public Sector is a unique career opportunity in commercial banking to work on large complex transactions with a high performing team while serving large public sector entities with budgets up to $1B+. Associates provide mission critical insights and recommendations through their credit analysis, portfolio monitoring, and other responsibilities working directly with senior portfolio and relationship managers. Associates get wide exposure to clients and develop deep capabilities in financial analysis, due diligence, credit, deal structuring, and client communication.

Our clients’ needs span the full range of BMO’s services so Associates play an important role in assessing needs and partnering with Treasury and Payments Solutions, Debt Capital Markets, Interest Rate Derivatives, Global Asset Management / Wealth Advisory and many others. 

Responsibilities day-to-day include:

  • Execute new lending opportunities through detailed financial modelling, risk analysis, due diligence, loan structuring, negotiation, documentation, and deal closing
  • Support the day-to-day portfolio management activities including portfolio monitoring, compliance, risk management, and expanded client needs
  • Deliver exceptional day-to-day service through bespoke solutions to client requests, coordination of service administration, and acting as a primary point of client contact in absence of senior bankers
  • Support client prospecting and proposal activities by drafting presentations and participating in client meetings
  • Resolve any identified issues properly and escalate concerns to Senior Management to ensure timely awareness of material concerns
  • Ensure a smooth team & client experience by navigating BMO systems, policies, and processes
  • Execute business initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvement, including adoption of digital ways of working
  • Maintain internal control standards including adherence to audit, regulatory, and compliance policies
  • Support broader portfolio or additional responsibilities as requested to support our clients

Experience it will take to succeed:

  • Minimum 3-5+ years of experience working in commercial banking or adjacent finance industries
  • Proven proficiency in research, modelling, financial analysis, and due diligence. Preference for candidates with credit and loan structuring skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in client service, collaboration, and initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy with a minimum of the MS Office suit. 
  • Experience with Public Sector financing considered an asset
  • Post-secondary degree in related field of study or equivalent
  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or similar are all considered assets

Salary :

$69,000.00 - $129,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
