Job description

Financial Controller

Industry: Institutional Asset Management

Florham Park, NJ | Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 remote)

Our client is an equity investment firm managing institutional assets for pension plans, endowments, and other institutional clients is hiring a Financial Controller to work directly alongside the CFO. This is a lean organization — the role is hands-on and broad by design, meant to take work directly off the CFO's plate rather than sit within a large, specialized finance department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the CFO on forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Assist with daily operational tasks, client deliverables, and onboarding new client mandates
  • Manage accounting functions including bookkeeping, accounting systems, and vendor relationships
  • Assist in preparing tax returns and internal/external financial statements under GAAP
  • Maintain accurate reporting on firm performance, AUM tracking, and management/incentive fee calculations
  • Collaborate with Operations, Compliance, and Portfolio Management on investment mandate reporting
  • Oversee vendor relationships in fund administration, audit, and tax
  • Support client and regulatory reporting (Form ADV, Form PF, GIPS compliance)
  • Provide financial analysis supporting business development
  • Contribute to risk management, internal controls, and process improvement

What They're Looking For

  • Background in finance/accounting, ideally with some asset management or financial services exposure
  • Comfortable at a small firm — hands-on, willing to wear multiple hats, and eager to learn
  • Strong GAAP and financial reporting fundamentals; CPA a plus
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting/financial systems
  • High attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and strong communication skills
