About UTEC Inc.

UTEC’s mission is to ignite and nurture the ambition of young adults most impacted by violence and poverty to achieve social and economic success. Through intensive street outreach, workforce development, education, mental health services, and case management, UTEC supports young adults in building pathways toward long-term success. Social justice and civic engagement are embedded throughout our work.

Position Summary

The Financial Analyst supports UTEC’s budgeting, forecasting, management reporting,  government contract invoicing, and financial analysis functions. The position works closely  with the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), CFO, Accounting, and  department budget holders to help ensure that financial information is accurate, timely,  understandable, and useful for decision-making.

The Financial Analyst prepares recurring budget-to-actual reporting and analysis,  government contract invoices, staff allocation and unfunded operating expense  schedules, and forecast and scenario models. This role is well suited to someone who  enjoys understanding how programs operate and helping non-finance colleagues use  financial information effectively.

For someone who wants to see how finance connects to mission, this role offers the  opportunity to work closely with leaders across UTEC’s programs and social enterprises,  understand how funding decisions affect operations, and help strengthen the financial tools and information used to support UTEC’s work with young adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the annual budget process and maintain budget records by department,  program, grant, account, and other reporting dimensions.
  • Prepare and update monthly staff allocation worksheets and the related worksheet  identifying unfunded operating expenses by line item.
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports for assigned departments, programs,  grants, and social enterprises; investigate significant variances and document clear  explanations.
  • Support preparation of monthly and quarterly management financial reporting  packages and related schedules.
  • Own timely and accurate monthly government contract reimbursement invoicing,  including complete supporting documentation and organized contract files.
  • Review accounts receivable aging for government contract invoices and convey  concerns about collectibility to the Controller.
  • Prepare and update recurring forecast schedules and models for salaries, benefits,  revenue, expenses, grant activity, and cash flow; support scenario analysis and  comparison of actual, budget, forecast, and prior-year results.
  • Identify emerging financial risks, opportunities, trends, and items requiring  management follow-up.
  • Review financial coding and data for accuracy, help resolve inconsistencies, and  support budget holders in using approved budgets and coding guidance.
  • Use Sage Intacct, Sage Intacct Planning, Excel, and other tools to prepare reports  and analysis; maintain reporting structures and support testing of system and  process improvements.
  • Partner with budget holders and other departments to review financial information,  answer questions, and translate financial results into clear, useful information.
  • Maintain organized recurring workpapers, schedules, and procedures and support  Finance team special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, business  administration, economics, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–4 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, accounting, grants  management, or related finance roles; nonprofit finance experience preferred.
  • Very strong Excel skills, including using formulas, pivot tables, formatting, and data  review with ease.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Sage Intacct Planning, or similar accounting and  budgeting systems preferred.
  • Ability to work with financial reports, general ledger accounts, budgets, and  transaction-level detail.
  • Ability to independently research discrepancies and bring issues to resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills, judgment, organization, communication, attention to detail,  and follow-through, with the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Experience with government contracts, reimbursement billing, grants, or a  government-funded human services organization strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide responsive service to staff with varying  levels of financial experience.
  • Strong interest in nonprofit finance and UTEC’s mission-driven work.

Compensation

The salary range is $75,000–$85,000. UTEC offers a competitive benefits package that starts with 3 weeks of vacation plus a week off between the Christmas and New Year holidays, 12 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, and 3 bereavement days, as well as health, dental, and vision insurance starting day one. We also offer life insurance, first-time homeowners down payment assistance, cost-of-living increases, a paid sabbatical after three years, and a 401K retirement plan with up to $2,000 savings match. See more about our benefits here.

UTEC provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, UTEC complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location where the company has facilities.
