Job description

Accounting Manager
Civitas Senior Living
Fort Worth, Texas | Full-Time
Own the close. Improve the process. Help drive financial discipline across a growing portfolio.
Civitas Senior Living is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of the monthly close process across our community portfolio.
This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who thrives on accuracy, deadlines, and solving problems. You will be responsible for driving our five-business-day monthly close, maintaining critical balance-sheet schedules, supporting community and corporate teams, and helping strengthen the processes behind reliable financial reporting.
If you enjoy creating order, improving processes, and being the person others trust to get the numbers right, this role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact.
What You'll Own
Drive the Monthly Close
You will lead the execution of Civitas' monthly close calendar across the portfolio, with accountability for completing the full close within five business days.
You will:
  • Manage daily close progress across all communities.
  • Coordinate journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Track outstanding items and escalate delays in real time.
  • Partner directly with community business office teams and regional leaders to keep submissions on schedule.
  • Research and resolve general ledger discrepancies and miscoded transactions.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and reconciliations for balance-sheet accounts.

Our close schedule is intentionally compressed. This position requires additional availability during the monthly close window, with corresponding flexibility during other portions of the month.
Manage Critical Accounting Schedules
You will maintain and reconcile several recurring accounting schedules, including:
  • Fixed Assets & Depreciation: Maintain additions, disposals, useful lives, monthly depreciation entries, and reconciliations.
  • Prepaids & Amortization: Maintain prepaid schedules, calculate monthly amortization, and reconcile balances to the general ledger.
  • Accruals: Establish recurring and one-time accruals, manage roll-forwards, and ensure prior-period accruals are appropriately reversed or adjusted.
  • Lease Accounting: Maintain ASC 842 lease schedules, including additions, modifications, and terminations, and prepare related monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
Be a Trusted Accounting Resource
You will serve as a go-to resource for accounting and bookkeeping questions across the organization.
That includes:
  • Supporting community and corporate teams with general ledger and bookkeeping questions.
  • Partnering with Accounts Payable and operational teams to identify accrual needs.
  • Responding to external inquiries from auditors, vendors, lenders, and other partners.
  • Preparing schedules and workpapers for annual audits and interim reviews.
  • Supporting tax preparers with documentation related to balance-sheet accounts.
  • Providing ad hoc financial analysis and reporting support to finance leadership.
Make the Process Better
We are looking for more than someone who can execute the close exactly as it exists today.
The Accounting Manager should continually look for opportunities to:
  • Simplify processes.
  • Improve controls and documentation.
  • Reduce close-cycle risk.
  • Identify recurring accounting issues before they become problems.
  • Build greater consistency across a multi-community operating environment.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate brings:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience with direct responsibility for month-end close.
  • Demonstrated experience managing deadlines within a compressed close calendar.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation workpapers.
  • Working knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting; hands-on experience maintaining lease schedules is preferred.
  • Experience with RealPage OneSite or a similar property or general ledger accounting platform is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.

Experience in senior living, multifamily real estate, property management, or another multi-site operating environment is strongly preferred.
The Person Who Will Thrive Here
You are comfortable being accountable for a deadline that matters.
You notice when a reconciliation does not make sense. You follow up when information is missing. You understand the difference between simply completing a task and owning the outcome.
You can move quickly without sacrificing accuracy, communicate effectively with both accounting and operational teams, and bring structure to a fast-moving environment.
Most importantly, you see accounting as more than recording what already happened. You understand that accurate, timely financial information helps leaders make better decisions.
Join Civitas Senior Living
At Civitas Senior Living, our accounting team supports a multi-community operating platform where timely, reliable financial information is essential to strong decision-making.
If you are ready to take ownership of a meaningful accounting function and help us continue improving how we work, we would like to hear from you.
