What is a finance transformation analyst?

Finance Transformation Analysts are professionals who help organizations improve and modernize their financial processes, systems, and reporting. They analyze current finance operations, identify areas for improvement, and implement new technologies or strategies to increase efficiency and accuracy. Their work often involves collaborating with finance, IT, and business teams to drive organizational change, ensure compliance, and support better decision-making through enhanced financial data and processes.

What are some common challenges finance transformation analysts face when implementing new financial systems?

Finance Transformation Analysts often encounter challenges such as resistance to change from staff, integrating new technologies with legacy systems, and ensuring data accuracy during migration. Navigating these issues requires strong communication skills to facilitate stakeholder buy-in, meticulous planning to minimize disruption, and close collaboration with IT and finance teams. Being proactive in addressing concerns and providing thorough training can help smooth the transition to more efficient financial processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a finance transformation analyst, and why are they important?

A Finance Transformation Analyst needs strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of finance and accounting principles, and a relevant degree, often in finance, accounting, or business. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, process mapping tools, and certifications such as CPA or Lean Six Sigma are typically utilized. Outstanding problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management abilities set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for effectively driving process improvements, enabling digital transformation, and aligning finance operations with organizational goals.

We are driven to do more. More for our customers and the financial professionals who offer our products. If you are driven to do more and love the challenge of pursuing more, Athene is your kind of company. You will find we offer more than the basics to create an inclusive and dynamic work environment at our various locations.

Purpose:

The Finance Transformation Analyst II will leverage financial and accounting experience and expertise - with a focus in investment accounting, corporate accounting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), tax accounting, and/or forecasting - to provide dedicated business support to finance transformation projects and process and reporting improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities:

Identify and analyze opportunities to improve Finance and Accounting processes:

  • Analyze processes, controls, data flows, and pain points across Finance and Accounting to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Research issues and contribute to process, system, and architecture solutions that address business needs while aligning detailed processes and controls with Finance's strategic vision.

Partner with Information Technology teams to translate business needs into solutions:

  • Serve as a liaison between IT and business users to translate business needs into value-added solutions that support current and future requirements, while independently managing assigned priorities, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Approach process and system limitations with curiosity, staying current on how technology-including AI, advanced Excel, and BI tools-can be applied to improve or automate processes.

Provide business support by executing or assisting with project activities:

  • Support project execution through data analysis and cleanup, performance and benefit tracking, issue resolution, test plan development, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Support implementation and change management by assisting with training and adoption of new processes, tools, and capabilities.

Build subject-matter expertise to support the broader Finance organization:

  • Develop working knowledge of Finance's pre- and post-Close processes and systems, becoming a go-to resource for process and system information.
  • Build relationships across Finance, Accounting, and Investment teams to understand business needs and the upstream and downstream impacts of process and system changes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 4+ years of Finance or Accounting experience or relevant professional experience preferred with exposure to areas such as investment accounting, corporate accounting, FP&A, tax, or forecasting/budgeting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Finance and Accounting processes, controls, and data flows, with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and translate business needs into clear requirements.
  • Proven adaptability and self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to manage projects, influence change, balance competing priorities, and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean or Six Sigma) and technology tools such as AI, advanced Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, or Power Query/Automate preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or professional certification (CPA, CFA) a plus.
