Job description

A key focus of this position is to develop and mature the site's maintenance planning, scheduling, MRO storeroom management, and maintenance metrics framework to improve the overall RAM methodology of maintenance, including Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability. The successful candidate will play a central role in reducing reactive work, strengthening asset care strategies, improving spare parts readiness, and building a data-driven maintenance organization that supports uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

This role partners closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Validation, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Automation, and EHS to drive continuous improvement and ensure maintenance practices meet business, compliance, and patient supply needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the site maintenance function supporting cell therapy manufacturing, laboratories, critical utilities, and facility systems.

  • Develop and implement a structured maintenance planning and scheduling process, including work identification, prioritization, backlog management, weekly scheduling, and schedule compliance review.

  • Establish and sustain effective CMMS-based work management processes for preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.

  • Improve RAM performance by analyzing equipment history, downtime trends, failure modes, and maintenance efficiency, then translating findings into practical reliability improvements.

  • Optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve uptime, reduce recurring failures, and increase planned work execution.

  • Lead MRO storeroom improvement efforts, including spare parts governance, critical spares identification, inventory accuracy, min/max optimization, and service level improvement.

  • Define and oversee maintenance KPIs such as PM completion, schedule compliance, planned versus unplanned work, backlog age, MTBF, MTTR, equipment uptime, and storeroom performance.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to investigate equipment issues, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ensure compliance with GMP/GxP requirements, site procedures, documentation standards, change control, deviation management, and audit readiness expectations.

  • Handle maintenance resources, including internal team members, contractors, and service providers, to deliver safe and efficient maintenance execution.

  • Support shutdown and maintenance window planning to increase work quality and minimize operational disruption.

  • Manage budgets and costs associated with maintenance labor, contractors, and spare parts inventory while maintaining compliance and reliability standards.

  • Mentor and develop the maintenance team through clear expectations, training, performance management, and standard work practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field, OR equivalent relevant experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in maintenance, reliability, facilities, or engineering in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing maintenance teams, planners, supervisors, or technical support personnel.

  • Experience in biopharmaceutical, medical device, cell therapy, gene therapy, aseptic manufacturing, or another highly regulated industry.

  • Demonstrated experience developing or improving maintenance planning and scheduling processes.

  • Demonstrated experience managing or optimizing an MRO storeroom and spare parts strategy.

  • Experience using CMMS/EAM systems such as SAP PM, Maximo, or similar platforms.

  • Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability metrics, including MTBF, MTTR, backlog management, and planned versus unplanned work.

  • Working knowledge of GMP/GxP, change control, deviations, CAPA, and maintenance documentation practices.

Physical & Working Condition:

  • Ability to reach, stoop, crouch, and kneel; this specifically includes the need to physically enter, stand, or crouch inside a robotic cluster for maintenance, cleaning, or intervention.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (e.g., equipment, replacement parts, tools) and lift up to 10 pounds overhead.

  • Ability to climb ladders, work in mechanical spaces and at heights, respond to after-hours calls

  • Manual dexterity required for using hand tools, cabling, and making mechanical adjustments.

  • Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing area adjacent to a laboratory setting. This requires alignment to strict safety protocols (e.g., Biosafety Level and awareness of surroundings.

  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, including biological agents and cryogenic materials, while servicing equipment that handles these substances.

  • Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves for extended periods during bio experiments.

  • This role requires the ability to work a standard schedule but may necessitate occasional evening or weekend work (or on-call availability) to respond to critical cluster issues or complete time-sensitive maintenance.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $118,750.40 - 178,125.60.
