Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Directs all aspects of Business Planning (including financial and market analysis, budgeting and financial reporting), Decision Support and Internal Audit areas for Bryan Medical Center (BMC) Finance department.  Works cooperatively with the Bryan Medical Center Senior Team, Management Accounting, Revenue Cycle, Bryan Medical Center directors, managers and clinical personnel to evaluate operational performance, strategies and initiatives.  Partners with Bryan Medical Center Senior Team and other leaders to drive financial performance, productivity and margin improvement.  Proactively researches and suggests initiatives to further the mission and financial success of the organization. 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.   

  1. *Coordinates Business Planning, including financial and market analysis, of proposed strategies and initiatives.  This includes developing and applying appropriate financial evaluation and forecasting models and techniques, ensuring business plans are developed when required, and conducting post-implementation reviews. 

  1. Keeps abreast of federal regulations, congressional actions and deliberations, and state and local activities influencing fiscal management of the organization. 

  1. *Hires, trains, supervises, counsels and evaluates direct report employees; conducts and submits annual performance appraisals; recommends/authorizes pay adjustments as appropriate. 

  1. Notifies BMC Chief Financial Officer (CFO) about changing conditions in the areas of assigned responsibilities; carries out other responsibilities and projects as requested by the BMC CFO. 

  1. As a valuable member of the Finance Team, develops working relationships with other team members and assists them as team needs dictate. 

  1. *Consistently reports on BMC productivity, service lines, profitability, expenses, utilization and other key indicators important for strategic decision-making and operational improvement.  Provide leadership for establishing and maintaining routine systems for reporting, including, but not limited to: executive dashboard, product line profitability analysis, payor profitability analysis, FTE and labor productivity, ratio analysis. 

  1. *Develops and optimizes a modern and effective business intelligence infrastructure (people and technology) to support the organization’s business intelligence needs. Coordinates the business intelligence resources for the Medical Center through collaborative relationships with Data Analytics, Information Technology, Quality & Patient Safety and Marketing leaders to create, analyze and present insightful and actionable business information. 

  1. *In conjunction with the BMC CFO and Management Accounting, develops and monitors operating and capital budgets, including monthly meetings with key stakeholders on variances and improvement. 

  1. *Oversees the departmental budgetary procedure to ensure proper operational and capital planning, appropriate and efficient use of resources, and consistent compliance to budgetary and fiscal controls. 

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise. 

  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.  

  1. Participates in and/or leads meetings, committees, strategic planning and lean projects as assigned.

  1. Knowledge of performance improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.  

  1. Knowledge of management and leadership principles and practices. 

  1. Skill in conflict diffusion and resolution. 

  1. Ability to make operational and management decisions in response to changing conditions and in emergencies. 

  1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 

  1. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance. 

  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, voluntary and ancillary departments.  

  1. Ability to present financial/budgetary information to numerous audiences, including the governing board, medical staff, management personnel and staff. 

  1. Ability to develop financial and related operational and information systems. 

  1. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 

  1. Ability to problem-solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 

  1. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 

  1. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required.  Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), health administration, or professional designation such as CPA or CMA preferred.  Ten (10) years’ experience in accounting or finance required.  Prior management experience required.  Previous experience in public accounting desired.
