Job Description
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
This bilingual (Japanese English), hybrid position is responsible for the overall management of Finance & Accounting functions. Duties include overseeing the monthly and annual closing process, preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports, and ensuring the financial integrity of JTB Hawaii.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Accounting & Financial Management (75%)
  • Performs month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing
  • Prepares quarterly balance sheet and consolidated P&L Fluctuation Analysis
  • Performs monthly expense variance analysis
  • Performs consolidation, inter-company transactions and reconciliations including foreign currency accounting
  • Ensures accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance to internal policies
  • Manages Fixed Assets
  • Performs balance sheet accounts reconciliations
  • Prepares various local tax returns
  • Interfaces with management in various departments, including JTB Americas, JTB headquarters in Japan.
  • Analyzes and generates consolidate financial statements to provide financial data of the all-group subsidiaries within the JTB Hawaii group to respond to variety of inquiries from the headquarters in Japan
  • Prepares reports for the headquarters in Japan as well as the subsidiaries; responds to various inquiries from these entities.
  • Works with outside auditors to review credits and liabilities
  • Prepares corporate minutes and relevant financial documents and materials.

Strategic & Operational Management (10%)
  • Performs management function within a department, a business unit, a branch/sales office or a region. Ensures that all policies and procedures are developed and that business plan strategies, timelines, goals, etc. are monitored and followed.
  • Responsible for maximizing revenue and effectively managing costs, labor and cash control.
  • Formulates sales goals that correspond to budgets and meet corporate goals.
  • Coordinates planning, operations and sales in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the Company.
  • Forecasts, prepares and monitors the budgeting process.
  • Attends meetings and/or confers with the Company's executive members to review current status and conditions of the departmental/divisional achievement and discusses required changes in goals or objectives.
  • Develops, reviews and improves operational procedures, systems and controls to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Reviews, controls and monitors departmental accounts payables and receivables.
  • Delegates and advises departmental staff regarding the Company's corporate philosophy "The JTB Way," corporate compliance standards, the JTB Group Codes of Conduct, and other business practices.
  • Motivates, develops and mentors employees for improved job performance.
  • Conducts hiring interviews, performance reviews, and disciplinary meetings personally or through subordinates, and makes departmental personnel decisions through consultation with the Human Resources department.
  • Ensures that health and safety standards are maintained and in compliance with the company policies and government regulations.
  • Reports to, communicates and consults with upper management as required. Prepares written reports, as necessary.

Management & Supervisory (10%)
  • Monitors and reviews employees' work activities through individual meetings, departmental and group meetings to ensure that all activities are proceeding smoothly as planned.
  • Sets individual performance goals in accordance with the established departmental sales goals, communicates expectations, monitors and corrects employee performance if necessary.
  • Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, price schedules, discount rates, products and services offered.
  • Directs and/or coordinates job activities by establishing and assigning tasks, accounts, territories, quotas, and goals to staff members or other team members.
  • Meets with business partners, assisting staff members with maintaining relationships, negotiating and closing deals, terms and conditions.
  • Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition.
  • Preparing past due accounts reports.
  • Motivates, develops and mentors employees for improved job performance.
  • Controls and approves employees' time off schedules and overtime work, if necessary.
  • Conducts hiring interviews, performance reviews, and disciplinary meetings and makes departmental personnel decision, if necessary, through consultation of the Human Resources department.
  • Follows company policies and procedures regarding management duties.
  • Communicates with departmental staff regarding the Company's corporate philosophy "The JTB Way," corporate compliance standards, the JTB Group Codes of Conduct, and other business practices.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possesses 7 years of experience or equivalent skills, in own expertise.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge and skills to perform work on his/her own and provides guidance to team members.
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge in the area of own expertise, as well as the market, competition, regulatory issues and how they impact the JTB business.
  • Speaks, reads and writes fluently in Japanese language

Working Hours:

Working Environment:

  • Work can be performed remotely but may be required to report to Honolulu or Hawaii Office as required.
  • Infrequent (two times per year) domestic travel by air is required.
  • Subject to varying atmospheric conditions, up to and including, noise, pollution, dust, fumes and vehicle exhaust.
  • Business travel is required if necessary.
