TexasHearing Institute is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to serving individualswith hearing loss. Our programs include audiology, speech therapy, familyservices, and the Melinda Webb School. The Finance team supports all of theseprograms by keeping operations running smoothly and the organization's booksaccurate.
PositionSummary
We arelooking for a current student to join our Finance team as an Accounting Intern.In this role, you will support our Controller by starting the transactionalaccounting work that the month-end close and other Finance priorities dependon, including accounts payable, payroll data entry, and reconciliations, sothat work keeps moving without delay. This is hands-on exposure to nonprofitaccounting operations, working closely with and reporting to the Controller.
WhatYou Will Do
• Processvendor payments and employee expense reimbursements, and prepare checks forapproval
• Verifypurchasing policy compliance and maintain vendor files, including credit cardtransaction support
• Preparethe biweekly Open Invoice listing for the Controller's review
• Compiletimesheets and Personnel Action Forms and assist with semi-monthly payrollprocessing
• Preparemonthly account, bank, and credit card reconciliations for the Controller'sreview
• Maintaindaily deposit logs for checks and ACH transactions processed
• Supportrecordkeeping for fixed assets and the depreciation schedule
• Takeon other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller
WhatWe're Looking For
• Currentlyenrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in accounting,finance, or business
• Comfortableworking in Excel and Microsoft Office
• Strongattention to detail and organizational skills
• Abilityto handle confidential financial information with discretion
• Reliableand able to commit to an estimated 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule
• Interestin nonprofit finance and accounting is a plus
