About EJ: We are the leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of access solutions for water, sewer, drainage, telecommunications, and utility networks. Location:This position is a hybrid position that is located at our Corporate Office in East Jordan, Michigan.

SUMMARY

Responsible for the daily and monthly tasks within the Finance area, focusing on sales and use tax and accounts receivable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for daily operational tasks for sales and use tax compliance including obtaining/reviewing customer sales tax exemption/resale certificates.
  • Responsible for taxability mapping of purchased items.
  • Learns and becomes proficient in multiple systems (ERP system, Vertex, Salesforce).
  • Performs as back-up role in accounts receivable; reviewing bank transmissions, applying funds received in multiple formats (i.e., ACH, check, credit card, wire) and balancing customer accounts.
  • Stays focused and on task to meet daily/weekly/monthly deadlines.
  • Communicates via email/phone/face to face with sales yards, customers, and other departments to provide answers and accurate, timely information as needed.
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are key to the success of this position.
  • Assists with special projects and other accounting functions, as needed. Problem solves for areas of improvement.
  • Meets or exceeds company/departmental goals annually.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Promotes the culture, the mission and vision, and the core values of the company. This includes adherence to and promotion of the company safety beliefs, employee engagement, competencies, code of conduct, and other policies and procedures.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum two-year degree or prior experience in accounting;prior experience with sales and use tax is preferred, but not required.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent verbal communication skills are necessary. Ability to read and comprehend instructions from multiple accounting systems and correspondence from external and internal sources. Ability to write reports and business correspondence professionally.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Internet navigation, email, and the ability to learn department specific software programs. Additionally, this individual should have the ability to learn and understand multiple types of systems (ERP, banking systems, credit card system).
