Job Description

This role sits within the Digital Distribution Controllership function, based in Universal City, Los Angeles. Digital Distribution is a rapidly evolving and growing segment of Universal’s Home Entertainment business unit, which generates approximately $1 billion in annual revenue.

The Manager will own and manage the digital distribution business, including supporting key month-end and quarter-end close activities as well as financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate will hold an accounting or finance degree and a CPA designation, preferably with experience in the entertainment industry. This role requires the ability to effectively multitask and manage competing priorities across multiple initiatives.

The position reports to the Director, Controllership; supports the VP, Global Controller; and works closely with Studio HQ, FP&A, Global Distribution, and Global Finance Operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Controllership team with monthly and quarterly closing processes, preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate data requests. This includes working closely with Digital FP&A, Global Distribution, Global Finance Operations, and our Digital operational teams.
  • Analyze movements in key balance sheet areas including preparation of monthly and quarterly balance sheet review packages.
  • Work closely with the Studio HQ and international business teams to drive simplification, process improvement, and standardization across the group.
  • Manage ad hoc data requests from various teams across the business including participations, distribution partner accounting team, and Global Finance Operations
  • Work with both internal and external teams to reconcile, track, and research discrepancies in monthly royalty reporting form our distributors, following up on variances and open items as required.
  • Support future SAP S/4 implementation.
  • Facilitate and support both internal and external audit requests.
  • Lead and motivate a direct report through coaching, career development, and performance management.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience with Excel formulas/functions (e.g. VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, etc.).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Exceptional understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience in SAP/AOE/BPC and/or MicroStrategy is preferred but not required.
  • Solid interest and/or previous experience in media and entertainment.
  • Possess an aptitude for financial systems, solid analytical abilities, outstanding process improvement capabilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with and mining large amounts of data and streamlining manual processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to building working relationships in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possesses a high level of personal and professional integrity.

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
