Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Theatre Special Event Technician supports the theatre technical area in the operation and coordination of special events and rentals of theatre department facilities on an "on call" or "as needed" basis. The incumbent interacts with CSUN and outside community producers on a wide variety of events that can include theatre, dance, and vocal performances, film, and guest speaker events.
  • Works to ensure a safe working environment and successful completion of events.
  • Provides audio setup and runs various sound boards and provides lighting setup (hang and focus) and runs various lighting boards.
  • Supervises use of Theatre Department spaces (locking/unlocking, granting access as needed) and utilizes a counterweight rigging system.
  • Works with stationary, power, and hand tools (used in woodworking) as required. Interprets and utilizes technical drawings/ designs and provides front of house operations and audience management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent of one to two years experience working for a theater, repertory, or stock company performing duties in lighting, sound, and projections, stage rigging and set construction, or related work.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, the Fine Arts, or a related field is preferred.
  • LICENSE: Valid California Driver's License is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • General knowledge of basic electrical theory and working knowledge of lighting and/or sound effects. Working knowledge of safety requirements and standards related to stage and set construction, lighting, and stage operations.
  • Working knowledge of design principles and the ability to translate design specifications, blueprints, or drawings into applicable costume, scenery, lighting and sound production. A foundation knowledge of applicable software packages for applicable production specialty and ability to use standard features.
  • Ability to identify and appropriate materials and supplies needed for projects and manage materials budgets for production specialty and specific projects. Ability to assist in the training and supervision of students involved in productions.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Classification: Performing Arts Tech / 0840 / grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $21.47 - $26.16 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $21.47 - $31.27 per hour.
  • HOURS: Intermittent, on-call; hours and schedule vary.
  • This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
