Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Summary:
VIAVI Solutions is an industry leader in thin film coatings, optical products, specialty pigments, and vacuum technology. We're looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Equipment Engineering team - the group that designs, develops, and continuously improves the production optical coating equipment that powers our business. You'll own electrical designs from concept through commissioning, work hands-on with advanced coating systems and precision electro-mechanical assemblies, and partner closely with Operations and Maintenance to keep production running at its best.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new electrical and electronic hardware for large-scale optical coating equipment, from schematics through final documentation.
  • Create and maintain detailed electrical documentation - including schematics, assemblies, BOMs, and CAD files - ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Manage equipment installations, qualifications, commissioning, and acceptance testing for new and upgraded electronic systems.
  • Select components and equipment by analyzing specifications, assessing vendor capabilities, and evaluating reliability to support system upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical issues on production equipment; drive corrective design changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct experimental tests, analyze equipment operating data, and evaluate results to inform design decisions.
  • Provide production support to Operations teams, including some off-hours availability, to ensure maximum equipment uptime.
  • Collaborate across Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams on complex technical challenges.
  • Support modest domestic and international travel for equipment installations and operational support at VIAVI facilities worldwide.

What You Bring
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing precision electro-mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code), NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery), and NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic design software - SolidWorks Electrical, Promis.e, or equivalent - for the design of electrical distribution and control systems on industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with PLC and HMI programming, including ladder logic, for troubleshooting and process control.
  • Strong analytical skills with a methodical approach to root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to lead projects, contribute as a team member, and present technical findings clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on schedule.
