What are film extras?

Film extras, also known as background actors, are individuals who appear in non-speaking roles in movies, television shows, or commercials. Their main job is to help create a realistic setting by filling out scenes, such as crowds, restaurant patrons, or pedestrians. Extras typically do not interact directly with the main actors or have scripted lines, but their presence is essential for making scenes look authentic and lively. Becoming a film extra requires little to no previous acting experience, making it a popular entry point into the entertainment industry.
