A Figure Eight job typically refers to microtasks or small online jobs that were available on the Figure Eight platform (formerly CrowdFlower). These tasks included data labeling, transcription, content moderation, and other AI training activities. The platform connected businesses needing small tasks completed with remote workers. In 2019, Figure Eight was acquired by Appen, and its services were integrated into Appen’s ecosystem. Workers now find similar opportunities through Appen’s platform.

Experience with the Figure Eight (Appen) platform or similar data annotation tools is advantageous, along with any training in data quality assurance or related certifications. Excellent time management, consistent accuracy, and the ability to follow complex guidelines make candidates stand out. These competencies ensure high-quality data output, critical for powering machine learning and AI projects.

What are common challenges faced by Figure Eight data annotation specialists, and how can they be managed?

Figure Eight data annotation specialists often encounter repetitive tasks and must maintain consistent quality across large datasets, which can be mentally demanding. Managing fatigue and staying focused are essential for minimizing errors, so taking regular breaks and setting workload goals can help enhance productivity.
