Job description


Nossi College of Art & Design is reviewing candidates for our Fall 2025 start:
Sequential Art Instruction
They would help to guide students to create illustration in the narrative form. Storyboarding video productions, television commercials and feature films are a necessity in the world of visual entertainment. Comic books, since inception, have used sequential illustration to visualize concepts and tell their stories. Students will also explore the concept and development of Concept Art, where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of design, idea and/or mood for use in films, video games, animation or comic books prior to final art.
Anatomy & Figure Drawing
An instructor would guide the students weekly by drawing a figure model in class. The structure of the human body is taught by observing the skeleton of the human figure. Understanding the bone structure is an essential prerequisite to drawing the human figure accurately with an emphasis on the muscular structure of the human body. A similar path with the muscle development over the skeletal process. Upon completion, students will be able to produce professional drawings of anatomically correct figures, depict chiaroscuro (the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting) in the figure, contrast and emphasize value and placement of the figures by using pencil, charcoal, pastel, cont and other mediums.
Basic Drawing
A drawing instructor would guide students weekly through hands-on practice, focusing on foundational drawing techniques. The curriculum emphasizes understanding basic shapes, proportions, and perspective by studying simple objects and still life setups. Developing the skill set of live observation will also be key to fundamental development. Mastery of line quality and form is a key prerequisite to creating accurate and expressive drawings, with attention to texture and composition. Students will explore the development of visual elements like shading and depth over structured exercises. Upon completion, students will be able to produce high-quality sketches, effectively apply techniques such as hatching and blending to depict light and shadow, and create balanced compositions using pencil, colored pencils, charcoal, ink, and other mediums.
Color Theory
A color theory instructor would guide students weekly through practical exercises, focusing on the principles of color relationships and their application. The curriculum emphasizes understanding the color wheel, hue, saturation, and value by exploring color harmonies and contrasts. Mastery of color interactions and their emotional impact is a key prerequisite to creating visually compelling artwork, with attention to color mixing and application. Students will develop skills through structured projects, such as creating color schemes and studying real-world examples. Upon completion, students will be able to produce high-quality compositions, effectively apply color to evoke mood and depth, and confidently use mediums like watercolor, acrylic, digital tools, and other materials to achieve desired effects.
Requirements:
Must have at least a bachelors degree in a related field. Must show at least five years of professional experience, and at least one year of teaching experience.
Must present an up-to-date resume and at least five examples of recent work. Must have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the aforementioned areas.
Courses meet once a week and are offered at 8-12pm, 1-5pm, and 6-10pm.
This is a campus-based position in Nashville, TN.

POSITION CONCEPT:

The Instructor/Faculty is the main-stay of the academic program and is a master teacher in their subject area. The Instructor must be an effective classroom manager. Each Instructor must be adaptable to a variety of situations and have the ability to relate well to students, other faculty members and the administration of the College.
The Instructor must also believe in and follow the philosophy of the College and agree to support College policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:

At a minimum, the Adjunct faculty will have:
1. A Bachelor's degree, Graduate Degree preferred.
2. Thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
3. Ability to teach, coach, mentor, and inspire learners.
4. At least five years professional experience working in the field that is being taught.
5. Must present an up-to-date resume with at least five examples of recent work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teach students according to approved syllabus. Changes may be made to the syllabus upon approval of the Program Director, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and President.
2. Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
3. During the first class meeting, inform students of all course requirements, all materials that will be needed, all classroom policies including absences and tardies, all grading procedures, all project requirements, etc.
4. Take and record attendance for each class meeting separate from the students attendance sheets. Maintain all class records.
5. Monitor and chart each students progress through observation, reinforcement, remediation, tutoring and review.
6. Assist students progress by way of weekly quizzes, mid-term and final exams and by maintaining a current record of all grades including projects and presentations.
7. Counsel and advise students. Motivate students to do their best work.
8. Report all students with personal or psychological problems that may hinder academic performance or may result in potential harm to himself or others to the Student Services Director and College leadership.
9. Ensure student grading is completed on time and entered into the grade book consistently.
10. Notify every student, in writing, of their mid-term grade.
11. Make sure that classrooms are in good order at the end of each class.
12. Instructors must provide 3 hours of learning opportunity for each class.
