Job description

SkyGrid, a Wisk Company, exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, SkyGrid builds ground-based high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operations and airspace integration of highly automated and autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid also acts as a key operational nexus for advanced air mobility, integrating and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support seamless and efficient air traffic services.
SkyGrid is looking for a Senior Product Designer to implement novel aviation graphical user interfaces based on a holistic understanding of operational objectives, safety principles, and user workload. In this role, you will lead and evolve design systems to ensure a consistent user interface design for aviation products, ensuring cohesion and usability across all interfaces, and work with customers to develop and validate user requirements. This role will involve cross-functional collaboration and communication to inform design decisions and provide rationale of design changes to leadership and other stakeholders. This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX and will report to the Head of Product.
Performance Objectives:
  • Provide a strategy to evolve SkyGrid's design system, ensuring scalable patterns and interface consistency across operational tools.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of SkyGrid's product lines and develop a UX strategy that incorporates user-centered designs into the products.
  • Facilitate design reviews, mentoring team members, and ensuring design efforts support broader product and engineering goals.
  • Support usability tests and collect customer feedback to improve the product and refine the value proposition.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the UX strategy for the design system for software products.
  • Lead the development of design artifacts to support the product lifecycle, including but not limited to high-fidelity mockups using Figma to deliver design implementation specifications.
  • Collaborate with product managers and human factors in engagement with the customers to define product requirements, user-centered interface patterns, and detailed interaction models to communicate desired product workflow.
  • Collaborate with product managers to ensure that the final user experience meets expectations and aligns with product requirements and value proposition.
  • Support the development and continued refinement of the Product Roadmap based on user feedback and customer prioritization.
  • Incorporate human factors principles into the design and turn low-fidelity wireframes into high-fidelity designs that lead to successful handoffs.
  • Support the development of research interfaces to test prototype functionality.
  • Guide the evolution and documentation of the SkyGrid design system, including tokens, shared components, and usage standards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior designers and foster cross-functional collaboration within teams.
  • Advocate for the user throughout the design and development process.
  • Stay updated on UI design trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, actively seeking opportunities for professional development and growth.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX/UI design.
  • 3+ years of experience in frontend implementation such as CSS, HTML JavaScript.
  • BS in Human Computer Interaction, Visual Design, Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, or related disciplines.
  • Excellent proficiency with Figma and conducting UI handoffs with software engineers.
  • Experience working with engineers on release features and products.
  • Highly motivated to build innovative products.
  • Ability to conduct user study sessions with customers.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design and prototyping such as Adobe Creative Suite Visual Design software (Illustrator, XD, Photoshop, or equivalent design software).
