Figma Designer information

What is a Figma designer?

A Figma Designer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative web-based design tool, to create user interfaces, prototypes, and design systems for digital products such as websites and mobile apps. They work closely with product managers, developers, and other designers to visualize concepts, design user experiences, and ensure design consistency. Figma Designers leverage the platform's collaborative features to streamline feedback and iterate designs efficiently. Their expertise includes UI/UX principles, prototyping, and often some knowledge of front-end development.

What is the difference between Figma Designer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DesignerUI Designer
Primary FocusCreating interactive prototypes and designing interfaces using FigmaDesigning visual elements and layouts for digital products
Tools & SkillsFigma, prototyping, collaboration featuresAdobe XD, Sketch, visual design, branding
Work EnvironmentCollaborative, often remote, using cloud-based toolsDesign studios, agencies, or in-house teams
Common Industry UsageWeb and app interface design, prototypingVisual design, branding, user interface creation

While both roles involve digital design, a Figma Designer specializes in creating interactive prototypes and interfaces primarily using Figma, emphasizing collaboration and prototyping. A UI Designer focuses on visual aesthetics, branding, and layout design, often using tools like Adobe XD or Sketch. Both roles are essential in product development but differ in their core responsibilities and tools used.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Designer, you need strong expertise in UI/UX design principles, visual design, and a portfolio demonstrating hands-on experience with digital products. Proficiency in Figma itself, as well as familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and sometimes basic front-end technologies, is essential. Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills help you work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure that designs are not only visually appealing but also user-centered, functional, and efficiently integrated into modern product development workflows.

How does a Figma designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product development cycle?

As a Figma Designer, you will regularly collaborate with product managers, developers, and other designers to ensure cohesive and efficient design implementation. This often involves participating in design sprints, sharing prototypes for feedback, and conducting handoff meetings where detailed design specs are communicated to developers. Figma’s real-time collaboration features make it easy to gather input and iterate quickly, but it also means strong communication and flexibility are key to success. Expect to attend regular stand-ups, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions to align your work with the broader team’s objectives.

Are Figma designers in demand?

Figma designers are in high demand as many companies prioritize user experience and digital product design. Proficiency in Figma, along with skills in UI/UX design and collaboration tools, increases job opportunities in this field.

Findigs

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Who we are
Findigs is on a mission to make renting work for all of us. Renting is one of life's most critical experiences, yet the process is often slow, opaque, and unfair. We're changing that by building the first end-to-end platform that turns complex screening into a seamless, high-trust experience for both property managers and renters.
We're growing fast - fueled by $78M in funding from the investors behind companies like Affirm, Gusto, and Uber. With a data-backed product that allows our customers to make smarter, more predictable decisions, and a team dedicated to transparency and precision, we're not just improving the rental process; we're setting the new standard for the entire industry.
We're aiming to double our impact this year, and we need builders, thinkers, and problem-solvers to help us scale. If you're ready to modernize one of the most essential industries, we'd love for you to be a part of it.
The Role
We're looking for a strong Product Designer to join our small, high-ownership design team. You'll report to the VP, Engineering, and partner closely with our Engineering and customer-facing teams to design and ship products that make renting and screening meaningfully better for everyone in the process.
This is a hands-on IC role with real surface ownership where you'll take features from brief to shipped, including research, prototyping, iteration, and handoff. You'll contribute to and co-own our Figma design system alongside Engineering and you'll bring AI-assisted design into how you work, not as an experiment but as a normal part of the workflow. Our team is small by design so you'll have direct access to decisions, fast feedback loops, and genuine ownership over how things look and function for our users.
Please note, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
Where you will make an impact:
  • Own the design of product features and surfaces from discovery and research through shipped product, including renter-facing application flows, property manager UI, and internal tools
  • Partner directly with product managers and engineers in sprint planning, grooming, and design reviews
  • Contribute to the Findigs design system (components, tokens, documentation) and keep it current and usable by both designers and engineers as the product evolves
  • Run and support user research: moderated testing, usability sessions, survey design, and synthesis
  • Use AI-assisted design tools (Figma AI, AI-assisted prototyping, research synthesis tools) as part of your standard workflow
  • Communicate design work clearly in async formats (written rationale, Loom walkthroughs, Figma annotations, and sprint update posts) so the broader team stays informed without needing a meeting
  • Contribute your perspective as the design voice in cross-functional settings

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • 5+ years of progressive product design experience; experience designing for complex, data-heavy, or multi-stakeholder products (fintech, proptech, B2B SaaS, or similar) strongly preferred
  • A portfolio showing end-to-end product work: discovery, structure, visual design, and shipped outcomes, not just static screen
  • The ability to own a design surface with light direction; you ask the right questions and move, you don't wait for a fully-formed brief
  • Experience contributing to or co-owning a design system in Figma: tokens, component variants, documentation, and versioning
  • Genuine engagement with AI in your design workflow; you've used it, you've pushed it, and you want to push it further
  • Strong async communication skills; you can explain a design decision or push back on a brief in a Notion comment or Slack thread without needing a meeting
  • The ability to navigate fast-moving environments where scope changes and priorities shift

Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience in housing, fintech, identity, or screening products
  • Experience as the primary or only product designer on a product, where you've held broad scope with limited design coverage around you
  • Figma power user: variables, advanced prototyping, plugins, component architecture
  • Experience working with frontend engineers on design-to-code token/component implementation (Storybook, design tokens, or similar)
  • Experience in a high-growth startup where the design function is still maturing

What we offer:
  • Location: We operate on a hybrid schedule (3-4x times in-office per week), with core collaboration days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at our NoHo office.
  • Mission-Driven Culture: A collaborative, high-impact workplace where we challenge each other to grow, innovate, and drive meaningful change.
  • Competitive Compensation: Competitive base salary + Pre-IPO equity.
  • Generous Time Off: We trust our team to manage their own time and workload. That's why we offer a Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) policy, allowing you to take the time you need to rest and recharge. We also observe all-company holidays.
  • Wellness Perks: Health benefits, 401(k) matching up to 4%, monthly gym stipend, and lunch provided every day.

$170,000 - $195,000 a year
Compensation disclosure as required by NYC Pay Transparency Law.
Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, and the scope of responsibilities in the role. In addition to cash compensation, all full time employees receive an equity compensation package.
Interviewing with Us
We're committed to making our interview process as effective and candidate-friendly as possible. We use a tool called Brighthire.ai to record our interviews so that our interviewers can focus entirely on the conversation and not get distracted by taking notes. Please note, if you move forward with the interview process, you'll always have the option to opt out of the recording.
We are an equal opportunity employer and, as such, all applicants will be considered based solely upon merit and directly relevant professional competencies.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
