Role Overview:

The Math Intervention Tutor plays a critical role in ensuring every student has the math skills needed to engage in rigorous, grade-level learning. Through targeted small-group and one-on-one instruction, this role provides focused, high-impact support to students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to access challenging, standards-aligned classroom instruction.

Working closely with the Manager of Math Practice, school leaders, and classroom teachers, the Math Intervention Tutor is a student facing support role that delivers instructional support and evidence-based interventions aligned with Summit's Math curriculum, including Illustrative Math and Teach to One. By monitoring student progress, using data to adjust supports, and partnering with teachers to reinforce learning across classrooms, this role is an integral part of the school's multi-tiered system of academic support and a key contributor to accelerating student literacy growth across the school.

This role will be fully in-person and travel across all CA Summit Public School sites will be required.

What Youll Do:

Direct Student Support & Targeted Intervention (Core Focus)
  • Guide students through targeted practice in foundational math skills, math problems, and vocabulary using established lessons and intervention materials.

  • Pre-teach and re-teach key concepts based on the content being delivered by Lead Teachers to ensure students can access core math instruction and successfully engage with the primary lesson plans.

  • Align all content and tutoring materials delivered to small groups and individual students to grade-level curriculum to ensure coherence and reinforcement between support and core instruction done by Lead Teachers.

  • Deliver targeted small-group and individual math tutoring during Student Support Blocks and Self-Directed Learning (SDL) times.

  • Utilize student assessment data (e.g. Individual student roadmaps, unit assessments and course performance) to adjust tutoring strategies under the guidance of the Manager of Math Practice.

Progress Monitoring & Mentoring Collaboration
  • Partner and coordinate with classroom teachers to share student progress updates and ensure tutoring targets are aligned with broader student goals.

  • Support students on the tutoring caseload with setting personal math goals, tracking their own progress, and building academic ownership.

  • Maintain accurate, daily student progress trackers to ensure classroom teachers, the Manager of Math Practice, and school leadership have real-time visibility into student growth.

  • Regularly share data with site leadership to assist in identifying performance trends, student content gaps, and opportunities for updating student support groups.

Preparation & Collaborative Alignment
  • Thoroughly review, internalize, and prepare prescribed math lesson plans and intervention materials under the guidance of the Manager of Math Practice and site leadership

  • Collaborate closely with Lead Teachers, Special Education staff, and Multilingual Learner specialists to ensure a highly coordinated and cohesive support experience for students.

  • Participate in site observations alongside the Manager of Math Practice and site leadership to ensure tutoring sessions are effectively aligned with classroom instruction.

  • Actively participate in professional development, receive instructional coaching, and quickly implement feedback to continuously strengthen tutoring practices.

What You Need:
  • Commitment to Summits mission and belief that all students deserve access to rigorous, grade-level instruction

  • Bachelors Degree strongly preferred

  • Experience in tutoring, mentoring, supporting, or working directly with middle or high school students, particularly in reading or writing preferred

  • Ability to implement established lessons, respond to student needs during tutoring sessions by making adjustments, and seek guidance when students require additional support

  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with students to foster a supportive and effective learning environment

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

  • Ability to implement feedback quickly and continuously improve practice

  • Deep commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching

Our compensation policy strives to be equitable and transparent. The pay for this position starts at $29.18 and goes up to $34.48 commensurate with location, experience, and qualifications.
