Job description

Position Summary
ย 

Thousands of children need extra help to achieve grade level skills and confidence in math. Take action as a tutor because students who have strong foundational math skills are better prepared for success in the classroom, community and workplace.ย ย 

ย 

As a Math Tutor, you'll be placed at a local school where you'll help students in kindergarten through third grade to improve their core math skills and gain confidence. Every day, you'll meet with groups of 2-3 students to provide extra practice and build skills.ย ย 

ย 

With great training and on-site coaching, we'll prepare you to help kids succeed. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the entire school year. We are currently recruiting tutors for the 2023-24 school year, with the option of beginning in August, October or January.?ย 

ย 

This is an AmeriCorps member position with Math Corps and you'll be joining a team of 300 tutors nationwide. Together we're on a mission to multiply a student's future opportunities through math!ย

Serve as a tutor and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, 18 or 10 hours per week.ย

  • A stipend of $900 paid every 2 weeksย 
    • $18,900 total for 1200 hours of service starting in August 2023ย 
    • $15,300 total for 900 hours of service starting in October 2023ย

  • Up to $4,826 for tuition or student loans*ย 
    • $4,826 total for members beginning their service in August 2023ย 
    • $3,447 total for members beginning their service in October 2023ย

*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child, or stepchild.ย

By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:ย 

ย 
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendanceย 
  • Able to understand and follow instructionsย 
  • Open to making improvements based on feedbackย 
  • Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with studentsย 
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)ย 
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writingย ย 
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalentย 
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*ย 
  • Able to successfully complete aย background checkย 
ย 

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.ย
