Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) is a Minnesota public charter school serving around 550 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade.  TCGIS is dedicated to its mission of “Innovative education of the whole child through German immersion.” The school remains the largest German language school in North America and has consistently been among Minnesota’s most academically successful schools. 


Position Summary

Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and collaborative 5th Grade Math/English Language Arts and 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher for a 1.0 FTE position. 

The teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing high-quality instruction in 5th grade mathematics and English Language Arts and 6th grade English Language Arts, supporting students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds, and contributing to a positive and inclusive school community. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, communicate effectively with families, and support student growth and achievement in alignment with TCGIS policies, mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

  • Plan and implement engaging, standards-aligned instruction in 5th grade mathematics and English Language Arts and 6th grade English Language Arts.
  • Create a structured, positive, and inspiring classroom environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and assessment practices to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds, learning styles, abilities, and learning needs.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate support and challenge to promote academic growth for all students.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment data to inform instruction, intervention, enrichment, and instructional planning.
  • Establish clear learning expectations and classroom routines that support student independence, collaboration, and academic success.
  • Support students in developing strong mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, communication, reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills.

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Develop and maintain effective instructional plans aligned with Minnesota Academic Standards and TCGIS curriculum expectations.
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development and collaborate with colleagues to assess and address changing curricular needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, grades, assessments, and other required documentation.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to identify student needs and adjust instruction accordingly.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with grade-level, content-area, student support, and other colleagues to enhance the instructional environment and support student success.
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and cooperative relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly, both orally and in writing, with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, school events, professional learning, and other collaborative responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Twin Cities German Immersion School.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in the applicable grade level and subject area, or a commitment to work with TCGIS and the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) to obtain appropriate licensure.
  • Eligible to work in the United States, or a commitment to work with TCGIS to obtain the appropriate work authorization.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and classroom-management skills.
  • Passion for working with students and a commitment to creating an engaging, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment.
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to contribute positively to a charter school community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching upper elementary or middle school mathematics and/or English Language Arts.
  • Experience working in a language immersion or multilingual educational setting.
  • Experience supporting diverse learners and implementing differentiated instruction.


Working Hours:

Regular hours for full-time employees are 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday.


Salary/Benefits:

Salary will commensurate with experience. Teachers who regularly work 30 hours per week are eligible for insurance benefits including medical and dental insurance (premiums paid at 90% by employer), long-term life & disability insurance (premiums paid at 100% by employer).
