Job Title: Cook / Food Service WorkerJob Description

We are seeking a reliable and motivated cook / food service professional to join our team in a busy cafeteria setting. The ideal candidate prepares high-quality meals, maintains a clean and safe kitchen, and works efficiently in a fast-paced environment while collaborating closely with other team members.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and food preparation area.
  • Assist with cold and hot food preparation, including line work and batch cooking.
  • Support inventory tasks, including receiving, storing, and rotating food products using FIFO practices.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers, grills, mixers, and other tools safely and correctly.
  • Monitor food temperatures and quality to ensure consistent standards and compliance with regulations.
  • Adhere to recipes and portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and reduce waste.
  • Help with menu preparation and setup for service as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with general food preparation and meal production in a foodservice environment.
  • Proficiency in line cook duties, including both cold prep and hot prep work.
  • Strong understanding of basic cooking techniques such as grilling, sautéing, frying, baking, and roasting.
  • Solid knife skills, including safe and efficient cutting, chopping, and slicing.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including ServSafe, HACCP principles, or equivalent standards.
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain proper portion control.
  • Competence in inventory management and food storage practices, including FIFO rotation.
  • Ability to monitor food temperatures and quality throughout preparation and service.
  • Experience operating common kitchen equipment such as ovens, fryers, grills, and mixers.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with kitchen and service staff.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a detail-oriented approach to daily tasks.
  • Possession of a valid Food Handler’s card.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous cooking or food service experience in a cafeteria or similar setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with menu preparation and planning is a plus.
  • Experience with temperature monitoring and quality control procedures is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of formal food safety systems such as ServSafe or HACCP is an advantage.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
