Job description

JOB SUMMARY 

A Commissary Delivery Driver is a  dependable and detail-oriented individual. This vital role involves the timely and efficient delivery of Commissary prepared food items and meats to Bear’s locations daily. The ideal candidate is highly reliable, has experience driving trucks or delivery vans, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where time-sensitive deliveries are a priority.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Safely load, transport, and deliver commissary-prepared food items and meats to designated Bear’s locations.

  • Follow assigned delivery schedules and ensure all deliveries are completed accurately and on time.

  • Maintain proper handling and storage of food items to ensure quality and compliance with health and safety standards.

  • Inspect delivery vehicles daily to ensure they are in safe working condition, reporting any maintenance needs to management.

  • Collaborate with commissary staff and location managers to address delivery needs and resolve any issues promptly.

  • Ensure delivery documentation is complete and accurate, including invoices, logs, and delivery confirmations.

  • Deliver items into designated areas of each restaurant and practice FIFO standards to ensure food quality and safety

  • Follow all traffic laws and company policies to ensure safety during transport.

  • Maintain a clean and organized delivery vehicle to uphold company standards.

  • Responsible for loading and unloading of products as needed to streamline operations.

  • Assist with miscellaneous moving and cleaning projects as requested for all Bear’s locations. 

  • Bring vehicles for maintenance and inspection appointments as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE

This role generally follows a consistent weekly schedule, which includes early morning, weekend, and holiday shifts. Flexibility to work afternoons or evenings to support events and other business needs is preferred. The position also requires providing coverage for other Commissary drivers as needed. Additional hours may be required during major holidays to meet increased business demands.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to safely operate delivery vehicles, including large vans and trucks, while adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.

  • Strong ability to follow assigned delivery schedules, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries across multiple locations.

  • Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and transport procedures to maintain food quality and comply with health and safety regulations.

  • Ability to conduct daily vehicle inspections, identify maintenance needs, and ensure vehicles are in safe working condition.

  • Accurately complete delivery documentation, including invoices, logs, and delivery confirmations, ensuring all records are up to date.

  • Ability to work effectively with commissary staff, restaurant managers, and other team members to address delivery needs and resolve issues promptly.

  • Ability to load and unload products, and manage the physical demands of lifting and moving food items and supplies.

  • Maintain a clean, organized delivery vehicle and ensure products are stored properly during transport to preserve food quality.

  • Ability to address and resolve delivery-related issues, such as delays, incorrect orders, or damaged goods, in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Provide excellent service when interacting with restaurant staff and other team members, ensuring deliveries are handled professionally and respectfully.

  • Follow company policies regarding safety, health standards, and delivery protocols, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Successful completion of company training program.

  • Onboarding and retraining is required for re-hires with a lapse in employment of four months or more.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS.

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of personal insurance that meets company requirements to drive company vehicles.  

  • Clear motor vehicle record (MVR) check.

  • Comply with company policies regarding safe driving practices and maintain a clean driving record throughout the duration of employment.

  • Demonstrate the ability to safely operate company vehicles, including large vans and trucks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on your feet for extended periods (up to 8+ hours).

  • Capacity to perform repetitive tasks, such as lifting food items and supplies. 

  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport items weighing up to 80 pounds, such as food, trays, tables, chairs, and other equipment.

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers is required for various tasks essential to restaurant operations, such as handling knives, operating a combi oven, and other related duties
