Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is hiring an Archaeological Field Director, to join our Environment & Infrastructure Solutions group based in South Central Ontario for the 2022 Field Season. The successful candidate will be working from field locations based from one of our offices in London, Cambridge, Richmond Hill or Burlington.

Compensation Range: $25.50 - $30.60 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include field work, acting as a Field Director or Supervisor on Stage 1 through 4 assignments, data/artifact analysis and report writing. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team of experienced consulting archaeologists in Ontario. The job offers opportunities to work on a variety of projects throughout Ontario and the opportunity to develop new skills and further career advancement.

Skills / Qualifications
  • Research License in good standing from the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries with at least 1 year experience field directing
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field. Master's degree is preferable.
  • 5+ years' experience in consulting archaeology in Ontario (Stage 1 - 4 AA)
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario archaeology with an applied understanding of current Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists issued by the MHSTCI and associated Technical Bulletins
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical demanding tasks (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling), work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements (hot & cold temperatures) and remote locations
  • Must be able to lift to 40 lbs. and be capable of repetitive movement of shoveling and screening soil/earth
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of quality work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Crew lead skills and experience, including setting up archaeology grids and map reading
  • Ability to travel and work on projects involving extended hotel stays, if required
  • Able to follow and implement both technical and safety training and instructions
  • Field assessment experience including pedestrian survey, shovel test pit survey, test unit excavation and archaeological construction monitoring
  • Identification of archaeological artifacts in the field
  • Able and interested in both field and office-based tasks
  • Analysis of artifacts and interpretation of data
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy (MVR)
  • A valid Canadian driver's license
