Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is hiring multiple positions for Archaeological Field Technicians to join our Environment & Infrastructure Solutions group based in Southwest Ontario for the 2022 Field Season. We offer an excellent remuneration package with benefits, extensive safety training, and opportunities for diverse experiences and professional development. The successful candidate(s) will be working from field locations in Burlington, Kitchener, London, Bolton, Hamilton, and others as projects materialize.

Compensation Range: $21.00 - $24.50 per hour

As a Field Technician you will be responsible for various fieldwork duties inclusive of; test pitting, pedestrian surveys and test unit excavations.  Successful candidates will need to maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behaviour in line with Wood's Code of Conduct.

Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
  • A minimum of one (1) field season or field school with archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation preferred. However, on-the-job training will be provided, as required.
  • Ability to work daily at field site locations.
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical demanding and repetitive movement tasks: (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling, screening soil/earth), work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements (hot & cold temperatures) and remote locations; Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Identification of archaeological artifacts in the field
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate information, questions, concerns related to the site work to Field Supervisor in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, or independently when required
  • Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects (hotel stays), if required
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and clean drivers abstract. Reliable transportation to-&-from designated Wood project site or office meet spot is essential.
  • Technicians are expected to prioritize Health & Safety and follow all Wood procedures/policies.
