Job description

As a critical member of the Field Services department, the Field Service Engineer is vital to ensure our Customers receive excellent support, consultation and repair of their equipment. Performing as a hands-on technical lead, this role is primarily responsible for assembly, testing, troubleshooting, repair and refurbishment of our products at Customer facilities during routine maintenance and emergent or outage situations. Customer installations are typically power plants (nuclear and commercial), refineries and other industrial plants.

Primary Responsibilities

Field Service - 75%

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, install, test and perform corrective and preventive maintenance to valve and actuator assemblies at Customer sites in accordance with technical documents, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure service work is completed utilizing strict adherence to safety and quality standards for both the Company and the Customer. Inspect work for defect of workmanship to ensure quality at every stage of the process.
  • Provide extended field service support during power plant outage seasons (typically spring and fall) for various durations of assignment.
  • Interface with Engineering, Aftermarket and Sales departments to address Customer requests.
  • Supervise and manage third party service technicians and supervisors, as needed.
  • Write reports detailing on-site visits including services completed, recommended parts for next service interval, modification to improve or upgrade current configuration or design.
  • Travel 60% when required (domestic and international) to customer job site on short notice to evaluate equipment issues and provide written and verbal recommendations to Field Service Manager for equipment repair or refurbishment.

Remote Office - 25%

  • Provide responsive phone and email support to assist Customers in troubleshooting problems on-site and take actions to minimize Customer down time.
  • Assist Field Service Manager in preparation of estimates for service work and repair.
  • Proactively follow up with customers regarding service opportunities.
  • Create Instruction and Operating Manuals (IOMs) for wide array of valve equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Complete administrative tasks such as record keeping, time sheets, tracking and driving completion of work to established schedules.
  • Create training documents and conduct on-site training presentations at Customer facilities
  • Assist Field Service Manager in scheduling and forecasting service work and repairs to achieve company objectives by identifying and communicating future Customer needs.
  • Read and interpret verbal or written engineering documentation, drawings, bills of material, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and specifications for custom designed parts and equipment.
  • Maintain rotating 24-7 "on-call" status with other Field Service Engineers during peak seasons.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Candidates must have recent, direct, hands-on experience evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying and testing industrial plant equipment (valves, pumps, rotating equipment, or similar). The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of valve maintenance, rebuilds and calibration, in both nuclear and non-nuclear power applications.
  • Candidates must have an Associate degree or equivalent from a college or technical school with at least 5 years related experience and/or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be acceptable.
  • Candidate must be flexible to work throughout US or abroad, including overtime and weekends if needed to support Customers.
  • Frequent security, drug, and alcohol screenings will be performed. Annual screenings include physical evaluations with pulmonary testing, background screenings, driving record checks, credit report checks and psychological evaluations.
  • Computer Skills - MS Office, including Excel, MS Project a plus, ERP software a plus.

Work Environment

  • Work areas are like that seen on industrial construction sites.
  • Our equipment is frequently located in industrial sites and may be installed in confined or limited access areas.ย  Bending, twisting, crawling and climbing and/or working at heights is often required to perform assigned duties.ย 
  • Occasional heavy lifting from awkward positions.
  • Climbing of vertical ladders that require the use of both hands while climbing, the weight of the individual would be away from the ladder. Climbing of many flights of stairs.ย 
  • Exposure to heat, radiation (depending on plant type), various chemicals and outside weather conditions.
  • Work hours vary from eight-hour days to fifteen-hour days ranging in duration from one day to four weeks.
  • Use of respirators may be required.

Estimated Salary range

$85-95K base salary; field service premium rate applies for time in the field
